I'm having some major mental blocks using Photoshop and Illustrator for design. I feel I have the ideas but I can't crank them out very well, I guess I'm feeling my PS/Ill skills are bland. Is there anything anyone can suggest, great books/expreiments? I've seen PS tutorials, but they all seem to be using filters to get this great lighting/warped effect, but what about the detailed designs, the really cool effects and graphics that have everyone go "wowser"?
thanks

Thats what you need to be aware of. Those agencies or indivduals we all love to look at their work, they just don't sit right on the computer and open Photoshop. Everything needs planning and knowing the purpose and audience. You need to sit down and write down the ideas you like to incorporate into your work by brainstorming and place them in a flowchart. Then ask yourself what theme can I incorpoate or colours assoicated with the main focus with your website. Once you know the foundation, then you can open Photoshop. Thats why your having a block. You assume that opening PS is the first thing that can get your going. The Design Industry isn't like that. Say you wanted your site to look Western. What does that include? The stylish fonts, the colors (brown), images like Indians, Guns, Cowboys, how they are designed. Go to your library, look at some books on Western History. I could go on.

mmmyeaahh... that's one way.
Sometimes the idea just hits you, you open PS and work flat-out - everything just comes to you :)
Well, that's what happened with my site :sure:

ya3, i want to be able to play your little bouncy ball game intro thingy forever!!!
Yeah, I find that doing stuff like that is usually a combination of the two. I spend alot of time planning things out, but then I end up realizing, wait, I suck. I can't do that. So I try and do it anyway, and then I get bored, and then I notice my sig..."Coming Soon..."
...
I guess "Coming Soon" means the second coming of Christ.
