View Full Version : Site of the Week (April 15 - April 22)
kirupa
April 15th, 2005, 12:44 AM
If you wish to be considered for this week, please read the summary of rules:
1) Reply by the end of April 22nd to be considered for this week's award.
2) Include the URL and your email address.
Only the webmaster/creator of the site can submit.
Only one submission per person per week.
Submissions are capped at 10 entries each week, so don't wait or hesitate until the last minute. Entries beyond the 10 entry limit will not be eligible for the SOTW for that particular week.
Include a brief synopsis of your site inluding its purpose, or maybe some features you wouldn't want anyone to miss.
3) Your site does not have to be full Flash to be eligible. Whilst you still must employ Flash to some extent, we are also looking for the overall design and usability of your site, not just your Flash skills.
4) While it is understood that sites are perpetually under construction, please submit only complete sites. Do not submit a site that is less than 80% finished.
5) Submissions must be actual websites with sections and content. Examples of ineligible include (but not limited to) flash games, movies, etc.
6) There will be a private poll among the moderators and a winner will be announced.
7) No critiques or feedback is allowed in the submission thread. If you wish a concentrated critique of your site, you may start a thread in Site Check. However, mod critiques will be posted when a winner has been selected.
For more information or questions, please refer to the Official SOTW Rules. Once you have read and understand the rules above, you may submit your site to this thread. Sites not adhering to the rules above will be disqualified and deleted. Submitting your site is an agreement and acceptance of the rules.

Solid Torch is dead, 2210media is now alive. :)
I went back to my minimalistic way of design. No more bevels, and drop shadows for me in my near future :)
Site includes both an html and flash site. Flash runs off of XML and PHP. I built a back-end for it that allows me to update it from anywhere I want. The html site runs off off PHP and mySql, same back-end applies.
Additional feature of the Flash site includes a working back button that works on 99.99% of browsers, (extrtmely old browsers are the .01%). A shared object that keeps tracks of your visits, download counters, and a cool easing effect if you resize the browser window. (that was the fun part  )
Thanks for taking the time to look.
Peace,
Josh

An experimental site to offer experimental electronic sounds to people. The main purpose behind the design was to teach myself AS, and also to have something where the content is the design, with nothing extraneous. The feature I'm particularly proud of is the ability to sort the tracks by different criteria.

Personal website in which I intend to experiment with flash. The flash files are loaded externally and the data is obtained from XML. The comments system uses PHP and XML.
Hope you like it!
UPDATE
I have just added a new experiment to the website, I think it makes the website worthy of an award! ( j/k )

Congratulations to seanmee for winning this week's SOTW! You will be featured on the main page of kirupa.com for this week. You may also post a graphical award from this page: http://www.kirupa.com/gallery/awards.htm
Good job to all the participants. One of the valuable aspects of SOTW is to get valuable feedback about your site and get an idea of how well it stands beside some of the best on the web.
Critiques will be posted shortly!

Very nice site...good mix of effects and useability without sacrificing user experience or design.
Pape
Site started off very good. But kinda let me down. The site was very slow in its movement. I would have liked to see better interactivity with the city scene.
pennino
I liek the bgrd and your site started off good as well. I would have liked to see some outro animation since some of you motions were very well done. The music is subtle but nice and fits the site. I really like your portfolio section.
Rhame j
The resize thing has been done to death. Not to mention nothing comes up when I click your sections.
Peter
A prelaoder for the enter button is not cool IMO. ALso the scratched film effect seemed promising but as I got into the site it seemed very distracting and not well done. The site is rather boring and bland and the music almost put me to sleeee......zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
ethan
Hmm I like the colors and the motion on the site. The retro style tech is a nice touch. Yet something about the site is lacking to me. Maybe it seems to monotone.
Cigar
Very nice AS....although this time nothing happened but "It's over now, that didnt hurt too much did it?" then nothing else. But I think I remember the crazy style nav on this one....none the less. I dont know what to do. So the ste failed IMO.
Arkitus
I played with the repulsion thing for a bit thinking I was waiting for something to load. After a while I realized the lil tabs at the bottom. Nice site but a lil misleading.
Ska8ter
I have seen that logo plenty of places. I think the site is kinda lacking. The pictures are low quality on the nav. Its cool to see a black company tho I must admit. But the site lacks color and good use of white space IMO. Again I would like to see some outro animation.
gma216
The way that 3d stuff flew in I thought I was in for a treat. But I was mistaken. The graphics that followed were kinda weak. The site alost seems to be made by 2 different designers. Too much going on at once for no reason. I would say slim down the tweens and extra animation. And try to incorporate the 3d idea you started with. Right now the design does not seem focused.
Cheers!
