I have been trying to get into 3D a little bit here and am still very new at this. I rendered these ice cubes last night using LightWave 3D:

ICE CUBES (http://www.ozzu.com/examples/icecubes0030001.jpg)

and cannot figure out for the life of me why the cubes have the lines in the cube and in the shadow. I thought at first it my be the ray recursion limit so I manipulated that from 4 to 16 with the same results. Any ideas what could be causing this?

While I do not use lightwave, the main issue I see is the material that is appliced seems to be "facing", or a UVW is not properly applied if you are using any tuype of image mapping. The shadow also needs a raytraced shadow to pull off the believeability in translucency. I believe Neil Blevins, even though he uses Max, might be of a huge help in lighting and materials. Good general insight from the education section of his site. Hope this helps a bit.
