I'm starting to feel like some advertizer, ;)
This weekend is Guild Wars last beta weekend! That means the game will be on the shelves soon, :D Start is scheduled friday at 00.01 am PST or something (8.01am GMT). The game itself will be out the 28th of April.
People who are in the weekend (and thus have a preorder or friend's key), I'm Olgorfgroth Iisdrag in the game, hope to see you there!
BTW, if someone seriously wants to test out the game before buying it, I might have one buddy key to hand out. First in first gets.

Just keep hunting. You can buy a new flute at almost every NPC that sells goods. That is in almost every town.
And Disco-stu, have fun at WoW. At least the community of GW is much more adult.

Lol. I kinda liked Guild Wars when I tried it, but it seems a lot more shallow than most. If it's free, it's worth the price, but I simply prefer teh tried and true MMO over the instance based / "pay for your zone/expansion pack every 6 months" ones. Basically in Guild Wars, you pay a la carte for your instances after a certain point. Blizzard has said that they are working on an expansion pack, but it won't be out in the forseeable future, and all of their additional features will be added in anyway (for the monthly fee). With WoW, you'll end up paying *slightly* more than you'd pay for Guild Wars + Expansions, but at what cost?
Dont get me wrong, I'm not a fan boy. I'll most likely pick up Guild Wars. I'm just the devils advocate on these boards. (anti-mac, non-liberal, etc)

lol, Well, Stu, difference is, most MMO /sell/ their expansions. GW does that too. But with Guildwars, not buying an expansion doesn't mean that you will be weaker then those that did buy an expansion. you probably know the drill: more races, classes, monsters and... new even more powerfull spells and weapons! Not with GW, they want to keep everyone on the same level. What does matter is the way you use your spells and skills, not which ones you have.
Guild Wars + Expansions is cheaper then a MMORPG with a fee but /without/ expansions. I really hope Blizzard will give the extra content of their expansions for free to those that already have the game and pay their subscription. That would be a revolution on itself, :). Guild Wars just pulled it further, :). And, :P, don't compare an early beta with a 'finished' product, ;) I played the E3 For Everyone too, but these weekends, wow, BIG difference, :D
Not to forget that you don't have to worry about wasting money if you don't play for a few days or even weeks, ;)

*sniff sniff* do i smell a fanboy? ;)
Geez man. There is a reason to pay, and that is for servers. Guild Wars doesn't operate on a single server envirornment. Only the small social areas. The instances are run on seperate servers and "moderated" by the mother server. You never actually fight alongside anyone that way. It's like Diablo II, but instead of battle.net chat, you've got an avatar that you run around with and talk to people, and then go off in seperate groups of 8 to the "levels". It's a lot different than an MMO. It just resembles one. And Don't get me wrong, I'll be getting Guild Wars. I just don't mind paying for (in my experience) a slightly better game for an hours worth of work per month.

That's probably because you have a job while I don't, Disco, :P Fact remains that there is no killstealing and looting, :P and no monthly fee, And grinding doesn't really appeal me, :-/ Rather play out a story (though Diablo was no more fun to me once I completed the story... then it became grinding, :() and Guild Wars offers me one.
Oh, if you buy it, would you join my guild? :D It's mostly RP based though.
@Hsadan: do check our guild's forums, you can get to them by clicking my footer (opens in a new window)

deaddocus, would I retain my character and affiliation with your guild? Im a bit confused because I understand that the characters will be reset, but will we be able to keep our accounts? If so, does that mean that I no longer have to go and buy the game? (and if I do have to buy the game, that should mean a new account, which means losing my character  )

Yea, I'm down to join your guild! I just hope I can get into it more than I did a year ago in beta.

Hsadan: with a purchase comes a new access key. Your characters are linked to your email (user account) not to the key linked with it. Normally , I think, when you buy the game and fill in your key when logging in for real the first time, you should still have your names set for you, :)
Disco-stu: well, you don't have to get into it really. You can play as much and as little as you want, it won't cost you a single cent more, :P Hell, I have so many games that I rarely play, the only reason Guild Wars will be slightly different is that I will be playing with other people, so enjoy it more.
