View Full Version : Web layout / designer
I've been trying unsuccessfully to create a good, professional layout for my website literally for years. Basically I need a place to showcase my experiments and work, as well as brush up on my skills in web development. I have had several replies from designers at other places, but honestly, the designs are pretty bad. I am look for a clean, professional, interesting web layout, not something you'd find on some AngelFire or GeoCities n00b site.
In exchange, I can offer my skills in XHTML, CSS, PHP, MySQL and JS for work on another project. You help me, I'll help you. If it turns out to be a good team, who knows, maybe it will benefit you in the long run :) So if you consider yourself a good graphic designer, please contact me through one of the methods below, and if possible show me your portfolio (if you have one)

I'm interested. If only I had a project I needed PHP MySQL and JS for. I may contact you soon.
Hm, so far only one person has really tried to contact me about anything. Paddy, seems like you and I have very different schedules / live in really different times zones, lol. PM me if you'd like to get in touch :)
As for anyone else, the offer still stands. I'm dying for a layout, lol.

im pretty good at layouts, but i wont be able to get you something right away, its finals time in school. You can check out my website. Here is my most recent project.

Cool. Oh, and to clarify, when I say I'm looking for a layout, that doesn't mean a working website. I'm not looking to make a Flash site, because of slow load times on lower-end computers and stuff. I'm opting for a static site, maybe with minimal Flash stuff here and there.
So if you want to help me with a layout, I would probably prefer a Photoshop PSD file showing the static site, then I would slice it up and code it and help you out if you needed.

k, how bout you send me some links to some site that have layouts that you like or just a description of what you want. My email is nathanwchapman@gmail.com
I will place the description here, for future reference of anyone else who wishes to know.
I need a simplistic, retro, stylistic design oriented with the theme of a placid panda (placid being listless, kinda tired). The sections of the website would be About, Experiments, Blog, Contact.
As for the looks, I am a big fan of slick, "retro" styles, with flowing curves, striking colors and diagonal lines. This kind of stuff is characterized best by vector art, I believe.
Examples of various elements:
- I love the colors and art style from http://www.noedesign.com/index.html
- I absolutely LOVE the retro type style of http://www.neverrain.net/ - notice the diagonal lines here and there, I like those
- I really like the flowing lines and soft gradients of http://www.i4design.nl/
So, I hope this helps you out! What did you have in mind for return, if you so choose to design this site for me?

Im not sure what I'd want in return. How good are you at php? Im pretty good myself but not an expert. I have several small projects that I might have you help me with.
Do you have a logo?
Im not 100% sure i can do this layout, like i said im working on finals right now. Ill keep your updated.
Hm, well I have about an intermediate PHP level. I can work with dbs, flat files, sessions, CMS type stuff, but I certainly don't consider myself an expert either.
No, I do not have a logo. I seem to have no visual creative juices whatsoever lol.
Well thats alright, I'm at least glad that someone is interested lol.

Hey,
I'd be happy to draw you a decent design - i know it sounds big headed, but having worked with photoshop for 5+ years now i consider myself pretty decent.
Draw up a real basic mock-up on paint or something and i'll get to work on it straight away.
Regards,
Sean.
Wow, ok, I've had a ton of responses to this thread lately and I'd like to update you guys on the situation. Its been such a long time since anyone offered that I've actually come up with my own half-way decent design.
If you would still like to make a design, please know that I cannot offer money nor time nor help to you in return; it would purely be for your practice and whatnot. All details regarding what I'm looking for can be found in this thread, just keep in mind that you won't really be benefiting in the long run, lol.
