View Full Version : kirupaStamps: Guidelines + Template!
kirupa
April 7th, 2005, 09:37 PM
This is a new project that we mods came up with. This is really simple. Basically, use the attached stamp template and create your own stamp. The stamp can contain any type of design - pixel, raster, photography, etc.
The ONLY picky rule is that you do not go outside the boundaries of the blue rectangle. Besides that, do whatever you want. It would be useful to make your stamp contain features a real stamp would have: cent (monetary) value of the stamp, etc.
The ONLY OTHER picky rule is for you to keep your entry appropriate. No obscene language, gestures, pictures, etc. Your stamps will be printed out and mailed to your grandparents, so you have to keep it appropriate for them to collect after all.
The ONLY OTHER OTHER picky rule is that your stamp's design should be original. In other words, please don't use exact copyrighted replicas of characters, logos, etc. as the main design of your stamp.
You can submit your entry/entries by creating a new thread in the kirupaStamps sub-forum (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=73). Good submissions will be featured in the continuously updated kirupaLab section devoted to this! There is no limit to how many entries you can submit, so submit early and submit often! :)
You can view entries that have been added here: http://www.kirupa.com/lab/kirupaStamps.htm (http://www.kirupa.com/lab/kirupaStamps.htm)
Cheers!

Please don't submit any entries in this thread. I'd like to keep this thread for discussing any ambiguities with the guidelines or to answer any questions that you all may have :cowboy:
Also, animated stamps will not be allowed. Please keep stamps static!

Just for fun - there is no real purpose behind it besides seeing what all of the members can come up with. I'm working on the kirupaLab page, and I'll have the current entries displayed there shortly :)

nice man! They look great! Oh man, I found this site a while back where you can upload images and get some companyto print out actual stamps and send them to you. WE should do that. As in "we" I mean the forum. lol

If users want to do that on an individual basis, that would be great :) It'll be similar to the kirupaShirts thing. People can do whatever they want and I can link to it.

sorry to sound like a complete noob - but im presuming we are meant to copy and paste the image you gave us then edit our design onto the blue square?
EDIT: because i've tried that and the blue rectangle (for me) is difficult to get rid of in order to create the design.
:puzzled:

you can just select the blue rectangle and change it to the color you want?

Do you use Photoshop djn? You can just select the blue recangle with the marquee tool (or magic wand) and fill it with white or something, thats what i did.

Oh no - I really liked it. You didn't provide it in the individual cut-outs along with the MS Office ones, so I didn't know if you liked it enough to add it up or not. I'll definitely add it up :)

Quick Question, what's the Max. Quality?
There is no real limit. I have not specified a size limit either, but I figure how large can a GIF/JPEG for a small stamp be anyway? :beam:

i am confused, you said no characters, logos, or tradmarks as the center of the piece yet i see firefox, firebird, IE, and southpark stamps on the accepted submissions page.

i believe that is because the people who made those stamps (uber and butters) made those pics from scratch (of course inspiration from firefox and southpark). what i think kirupa meant in the rules is dont just copy and past logos.
is that right kirupa? (or should i go back to my corner :sigh: )

yep - what dale said! :beam:
For example, taking a logo, adding a background, messing with colors, etc. is fine. What is not fine is taking a png of the firefox logo and placing it in the rectangular stamp area and not make any further modifications!

haha yeah - I didn't expect this many entries. Once I find a way to cover the exterior of a large building with them, then I will stop kstamps for a bit :beam:

I think South Park is one of those (like Disney) that doesn't allow any kind dups or derivatives without express permission and will come after "the little guy." Better check on that though... Maybe I'm wrong, but sure wouldn't want anyone to get in trouble for it...

Quick question, can we alter the height and width of the overall stamp? i mean, that small turqoise section is limiting my creative ability!!
Here's a sample of what I'm talking about.

I think the point that it is a deliberately small area is intended to challenge rather than hinder your creative abilities ... :)

Hey flash_padlac, I think you need to start a new thread for your stamps - not this one.
(check first page)
Plus, the rules say not to do animated stamps.

I guess the Indian stamp is ok... it doesn't really adhere to the template at all... nor can they be animated.... but its a start.

hey Kirupa, in your recent stamps competition, you offer 2 books for first and second place. Perhaps offering books to all that took part - 40 - would be a good way to go, the lower in the ranking your stamp comes out - the more useless and boring the book becomes. This book could go to the person who comes last

anyone got a better book for last place?
