i've got a little winamp problem right here. i have a playlist of about 8GB, but sometimes when i have it on, it takes a while for the next song to begin (shuffle mode), about 15 - 20 seconds or so. does anyone know how this is possible? might wanna add that i just bought a new pc about 2 weeks ago, with 360GB HD, and i haven't really installed a lot on it yet, so that might have something to do with it?

does it do the same thing when it is on normal play mode? (song to next song)
If you have a list that long, it might just be trying to parse through it all and pick a random track. If it's doing it in just normal mode - the list may be stressing winamp's playlist ability. That and if the hard drive the songs are on is old or what not, it could have a slower access time due to age.

yeah, it sometimes has it in normal play mode too. at the moment, it's working perfect again. but it's strange because on shuffle or normal, it finds the next track, but it just takes a while before it starts (remains at 00:00) and when i press play or what ever, winamp kinda freezes for 5 secs and then starts. the hard drive isn't old, it's a brand new pc, so that normally couldn't be the problem.
about the playlist, does winamp really have a max. allowed amount of songs you can put in there?

not necessarily a file number limit, but winamp's programming might only have allocated a certain memory size for playlist handling - you might try saving the playlist, then creating a new smaller one and seeing if it does the same thing.

i think i finally found what the problem is. winamp is a 32 bit application and i have a 64 bit processor. anyone knows any winamp-kinda 64 bit music players? not really that fond of mediaplayer :-/

It's pretty tough for any program to poll 8GB worth of music and cache all their ID3 tags. I'd suggest breaking it up, or using something that KEEPS the cache when you're done (like winamps meda library, instead of the playlist).

I have a 64-bit processor too (AMD) and winamp works fine for me, so I don't think your problem lies there. How many songs do you have?

You only have an 8GB playlist? Pffft... I've got... lets see....... over 21 thousand MP3s.
And I only have one playlist, named "ALL", which says it contains something like 12 days of consecutive music. I have no delay between songs, unless my RAM is down to like 6% free, which isn't very often (usually when I'm tyring to open Photoshop, while winamp is playing, and I already have Dreamweaver open...). I would try uninstalling/reinstalling winamp, and perhaps check some of your settings, when they say things like: "Option Something (SLOW)" - don't pick that one ;)

You could always try another media player like foobar (www.foobar2000.org). Foobar + columnsUI rocks.
