View Full Version : What can I do better?

I have changed quite a bit on this site from it's original. I also have some things that go nowhere because of lack of content. The sound buttons dont' work yet and the door will eventually open to live video of the band. Rip it apart if needed, I just want to know how to make this site better. I take constructive critisism well, just don't be an *** and tell me anything sucks, tell me what I can do better.
Thanks,
Chris

Two things that hit me right away.... the image quality of your background is poor. Its pixelated and blurry looking, it makes me try to focus therefore difficult to look at.
2nd your menu items should have much more contrast with their background. As of now they kinda get lost because they certainly dont stand out.
Those two things are easy to change and would help the site greatly... do that then check back ;)

Some sound effects for the door and the window would be cool. Also you can use a different font for the menu buttons, something that blends with the brick wall and the board you know. Nice job overall :thumb:

Well... the window transition is weak right now... good idea though. But you should probably put the preloader on top of it... then when it's done preloading open up to the content, and put some easing motion in it.
I don't know what the door does... says I can click it and interact with it more... but nothing happens... is there supposed to be something?
Perhaps... skin that mp3 player a little better... seems outta place how it is.
The guestbook links... use some CSS to pretty those up to match the site too.
It's looks pretty good though man. :D

It's OK. I don't like these cheapy rollOvers, and I don't like how the menu looks like, on the whole. The door opens unnaturally. When you've read the text, you can scroll and scroll down, but wouldn't see anthing.

It's nice to know what you don't like, but how can I make the door open more naturally? How would you redo the menu? Can you give me any suggestions or ways to make it better?
I would like to thank everyone for the help... I've done some updates, and then I started working on my files on a different computer and corrupted my audioplayer file, so I have to still fix that, I know it's not working.

I would agree on the door it opens abit strange and I never seen an entrance door open inward before. Does it serve a purpose?
Image quality and text fields dont blend in. Over all looks good but only a minor tweeking and it will be a good site.

Choose nice fonts, play with the color, add some good rollOvers(http://www.kirupa.com/developer/flash5/advroll.htm). Also, if you want to make the door lookin' better, try to observe and examine how a real door closes and opens. And one more thing - without reading the domain name and the content box, I wouldn't say this say is devoted to music/band/and the like. You must make the site look like a band/music site, but not as a site of your neigbour John (for example), who is creating his "home site". See? That's it.

at first i hated this site but looking back it is a really nice idea, I agree with the back needing more detail looks blurry. The nav colours/font needs work.

First: @Cobol: Entrance doors DO open inwards. (You don't wanna slap the door in the face of your guests, do you? ;))
Then: I really like the idea of the wall, and i agree with all said above. Just want to add that i like the photo's of the band. Done by a pro? The start-picture is a good choice!
A lot of things need some polishing. For example that the pictures show on top of the opening window and not behind.
