Everyone here has probably seen this before, but I just managed to find it again. This is what inspired me to try making a semi-3d world.

That's a pretty good use a solid background rotating around... and little 3d objects here and there.... Not too shabby of a job I must say...

They need to fine tune their physics engine though.... If I run my car in the grass.. It won't slow down like I hit a gravel pit :)

I didn't make it. ;)

We could also pull this to bits and critique it. For instance, the ground texture isn't very good. The road is excellent but the grass feels like a repeated texture.

As Marz mentioned, the physics don't feel right. And there's no handbrake. Most of those corners are impossible unless you know the track very well, or you have a handbrake.

Apart from that it feels good to drive.

The ground is made up of a lot of small tiles rather than a few large ones. This probably doesn't offer any speed gain, but it means they all shift and jump constantly when the car is still.

Anything else anyone noticed?

Yeah, I've alredy seen it some time ago... It's far the best race game in flash I've ever seen!!! There are some others that are fully 3d, but they always have some slow downs and other problems envolving the physics, but that one is perfect!! I wish I could do something like that, but until today, the further i've managed to do was a top-view car game

Nice find! This looks like his next game:

Once again, very cool! The driving still felt wrong though.

And a Mariokart clone:

He definitely likes his racing games.

Also, go here and click "3dimage" at the top. I have a couple of ideas how he could have done this, but other than that no clue:

I've decided he did it with an array of polygons, one per pixel. You can see some funny stuff going on at really acute viewing angles.

aren't these done w/ raycasting techs? at first glance i would think so but flash normally can't handle complex raycasting unless this guy is a genius in coding (which i wuldnt doubt)

I went into one of these 'raycasting' demos. It's not what I'd call raycasting at all, and no, Flash doesn't run fast enough to do the real thing.

I have a pretty good idea of how he's done a ground plane with perspective, and he pulls it off well.
