Hi -
Have been working with Flash MX 2004 for a month or so now.
This is my first official Big Experiment, and I wondered if it was
'acceptable' to those who are more used to Flash than myself!

It's a fictitious design site with a few work samples...
http://elsite.us/design

Thanks in advance for taking some time,
El

uhh... nice look and all, but might want to change the way you view examples... dont really know how it worked is it timed display. might just try a back button.

hmm, needs better transitions, and i would loose the intro, it dosent really add to the site.

Also, look at the kool sites section to get a feel for color schemes. Currently, the color scheem seems a little odd.

Other than that, keep working on the smothness of the tweens.

Cheers!

to be honest, this needs a lot of work. the flash isn't really what bothers me because you're a beginner. but what really needs work is just the overal visual design. first, it needs a stronger layout. then you need a decisive color scheme.

i would work on a layout/color scheme in photoshop and submit it to showcase and critiques; get some feedback; rework it; more feedback; more rework; then when you're happy with the design, put it into flash.

Don't get discouraged, but there is a lot of room for improvement. As long as you are feeling comfortable within the Flash environment, you will improve upon your initial design attempt. Make sure you carefully study the amazing tutorials and tips found on this main pages of this website.

Hi -
Just wanted to say that I agree with just about every point you've made!

Returning to design work after teaching art for 11 years...
can you hear the rusty hinges squeaking?

Been doing websites for 13 months and must say that I'm loving the recent addition of Flash to my burgeoning skills. [Taking the time to delve into Action Script: excellent stuff!]

Much appreciated,
El

P.S. The transitions DO stink: in the work samples, the loaded .swf only plays as long as its parent timeline has remaining when you click it.

well its good to hear teachers and older(in a good way) trying to learn new things... i've had so man teachers that can't even turn on their pc... but the site is a good start.. but layouts are just as hard as learning flash....

try http://www.colourlovers.com for colour schemes... and frame rates normally shouldn't drop below 25 for sites and animation...

but nice start!!!!
