This past week I have been in training. Learning various console standards and being evaluated on my ability to find and properly document bugs. Today was our test and final evaluations...
I passed with flying colors and so begin a new job on monday as a video game tester for THQ. I will be playing video games for 8 hours a day, 40+ hours a week (they said there is lots of OT available) at $9.50 an hour to start. Now granted I will be playing the same level of the same game a billion times and will eventually end up hating said game for life. But the environment is relaxed as hell, I'm surrounded by other games, and I'm doing something my parents said would never amount to anything...playing video games. I just called my dad and told him all those years of Super Mario and Street Fighter was what got me this job. He laughed. I laughed. Good Times.

sweet my mom used to work for prima publishing, they made strategy guides among other things, that got bought by random house i think and that place had an awesome videogame testing facility, though they didn't have to find bugs just play the game and write the guide. Hope you like your new job, gl

How hard was it to get the job? I dunno much about it, but I've heard it is terribly difficult to get considered for such a job - because everyone wants the job.... sooo, I've heard that you gotta know a guy, or something... how true or false is this? just curious.
Congrats on the Job :thumb:
Peace

I don't know about the 'behind the scenes' standards they use on who gets past the interview and who doesn't. I just sent in my resume (which has no computer or technical experience on it) and they called me in for an interview. They asked basic questions, some game related ones, and gave me 4 essay questions. The first one was to detail how I would check to make sure a soda vending machine was ready to leave the production plant, the second was: imagine you just met an alien and this alien knew nothing about a telephone, in essay format explain to this alien what a telephone is and how to use it. The other two questions were logic tests, like you have a lion, a cow, and some cow feed and you need to get all three across a river...but can only take one at a time. That type of thing. If you wanted to get into to any beta testing, now is the time. E3 is coming in May and thats a really big deal in the gaming industry. I was talking with one of the supervisors who's been there a few years. He said the time after christmas until about mid-march was the slowest time of the year for them. But starting mid-march until christmas its non stop to the top. So I got in at a good time. I'm sure any technical or previous beta testing experience helps, but they just want to know that you an find and properly document bugs. 25% of the beta testers at THQ had never played a video game in there life before working there...and they find a majority of the bugs.
Just remember this basic motto when applying for *ANY JOB*
It doesn't hurt to apply, the worst that can happen is they never call you. The worst thing you can do though...is not apply.
