My client wants a site making - she's a tattooist. I have been given an image of an octopus to incorporate into the site and the buttons must look like ink splats - what are your opinions on this. This is just something i've thrown together really quickly so you can see the images.
Do you think it will look amateurish if we do it this way?
It's not how i'd make it if it was left up to me but the client is the person to please.
Thank you.

to me, the colors together wirh the "curly" octupus look very girlie-like, not like a site of a tattooist- or is it going to be her personal site?

looks girly like to me too. Is that the octopus that was given to you? it looks a bit shabby but if its what they gave you then it dont matter.
The homes button does look like an ink splat though :)

not unprofessional per say but it looks like the tatoo artist lady is going to try selling her tatoo's to toddlers.
You might want to try a different color scheme and incorperate a grunge look with the octopus to give it a more mature feel.

its starting to come together a bit now. Thanks for the comments so far. See new screen shot. With some nice transitions it should work out quite well. Grunge is out as the brief is for a cartoony fun looking site.
Cheers.

That does look much better than the first one. Why purple?

well purple represents ink - tattoo - octopus etc. But it might end up being turquoise anyway :)
Thanks.

I would suggest making the Octopus a different colour to the background, to make it stand out. The gradient isn't doing it much justice. Even solid white might work.
The text is very spread out, which makes it hard to read. Also 3 different fonts doesn't work.
Good start, I suppose.
