I'm just wondering if any of you have ever bought a domain name that you (or a client) really wanted. I'm in the process of trying to come up with a name for a design company and want to make sure I can have the appropriate domain name as well. I did find one but someone else owns it and of course isn't using it! So I enquired about the cost and they want $960 for it. That seems a bit high to me but I want some info from you guys on what prices to expect.

Someone offered me Reclipse.com for like $90, but I wouldn't ever pay that much....

I'm not going to pay that much. Most likely I'll just come up with a variation of it or something else. I could get it with a .ws, .nu, or .tv but those are just weird and people won't remember them as easily as .com or .net so I'll avoid that.

I would never purchase one from those private companies that sell them... SUCH A RIP... i mean they just went out and bought up anything that sounded interesting and sat on 'em until now when people want them - well I guess thats supply/demand and the free market at its best ;)

I always go with a variation of sorts until I can secure it through netSol

Isn't there some kind of suit called "cybersquatting" or something for people if they've owned a company for a long time and their company name's been taken by one of those companies? Probably cost a bundle for lawyers anyways though. =\

I'd personally never pay more than $9 for a domain (GoDaddy.com!).
