So its just 6 days away before i make my first somewhat big move away
from home (state) and my destination is Indianapolis Indiana !!!
Here goes the run down :
Fall of 2001 found out I had lymphatic cancer :upset:
So I quit my well paying retail job and never looked back
Moved in with my (at the time) brand new girlfriend
While going thru my treatments i started to work on my art
again and discovered FLASH ... and KIRUPA(thank god!!!)
Learning flash really helped me thru some tough times
Fast forward to just 12 days ago ... same girlfriend for going
on 4 years now says its time to call it quites ... I mean it
looks like im going to live now so she doesnt have to
feel any guilt for dumping me ... whatever ...
So I was a little caught off guard by all this ... and seeing
how right now I dont have a job and very little $ I have
decided to make a clean break of everything and move
a little over 600 miles away the day before my birthday !!!
sound crazy ??? Well my best friend just got relocated to
Indy about 6 months ago and I helped her move ... when
she found out the news without a pause offered for me to
come stay with her and she would do all she could to help
me achieve my goals of doing design work for a living !!!!
How cool is that ... Pretty cool I think !!!
So any fellow Kirupians got the low down on Indianapolis
like where to get a good pizza or a job doing graphic/flash
design ???? ;) Really any info is good info to me ... I was only
there a couple of days last fall and really didnt have a chance
to really check things out. I do at least know a couple of really
good record stores so thats a big plus but other than that
feel free to fill me in on the great mid-west metropolis that is
Indianapolis !

wow, really? no offence, but what a b*tch! judging of what you said, i'd say you're better off without her, seriously. moving in with your friend sounds cool, i'd be excited too man :) and that's why i always pick friends over g/f's, i think it's great she just said to come live with her, i wish you all the luck on achieving your goals man :thumb:
oh, and i believe GL is from indiana if i'm not mistaken

Thanks for the support Dark + RabBell
Yeah it really has not been a bad break up ... she said its over
and I was like ... ahhh ok ... when do you want me gone???
You just know when its worth it and when its not ... and after
almost 4 years I knew it wouldnt last forever ... sucks ... but Ive
been thru worse ;)

I live near Indianapolis... in West Lafayette, which is about an hour away in the direction of Chicago. You're right, GL lives in Indiana too, as well as Simplistik (I think he lives IN Indianapolis)
As far as good food... I've never really paid attention to what I've eaten there :a: so I someone else can answer that for you. I don't think I've ever gone somewhere I ended up not liking, so that's good.
As for design jobs, there's probably a pretty fair amount. Even in my town you could probably make a better-than-decent living off of the work (I live a few blocks from Purdue). Indy would probably have bigger jobs too, for the larger corporations that are there. Once you get to be good enough at designing, your larger clients won't mind if you live far away, they just want your skills.
Have fun in Indianapolis, and don't watch the news on channel 13, it's really boring. :D

Watch out, I've heard areas of that town are pretty nasty. Heard that from a gas station attendent once when I stopped to fill up. It appears I was in one of those neighborhoods, bars on the windows, locks on the pumps.

I'm about an hour north of Indy. I come down there quite often and hit "da club" with some friends of mine.
hsadan, I didn't know you went to Purdue. I was just down there a couple of weeks ago.

Woah, I didn't know you lived so close to me...
I'll wear my kirupa shirt on campus sometime and see if you can spot me :P
The cheesecake factory is good... as well as the melting pot, but that place is expensive.

Indy is a good town.... My old job was based inIndy although it was travelling all the time the office was in indy so I've been through there alot... I wouldn't order from Pizza hut on the west side of town tho (doughy pizza, like not cooked enough). I dunno about any jobs either but its a bummer about your situation and I hope you get through this... my finance and I just moved 900miles on a whim because my AUNT was being a total A $ $ to us and basically kicked us out so I kinda know how you feel there we are just getting seteled in Ft. Lauderdale Fl where she has a friend we are staying with till we get on our feet. Anyways just kinda wanted to drop in and say good luck to you. and you'll be better off in the long run, not sure where your moving from but Indy isn't far from chicago or St. Louis I don't know if its a small town your in or not Indy is pretyy big and has alot of stuff to do you should be pretty happy there oh yeah the roads suck though potholes from hell in places me thinks its because of the snow n winter weather though

closer to moving to chicago ... who knows
thanks to my friend and my friends here on Kman's forum i already have a
couple of job prospects :thumb: and my friend has already picked out our
main pizza supplier ... its called Bazbos or something like that ... its

I know alot about the drag racing scene in idy since I used to work for a team based there but other than that I really don't know much. Its a pretty nice town though some rough parts buts thats anywhere.... Good job getting outta oaklahoma not much going on there from what I gather Indy will be vry upbeat compared for sure... and yeah shy town is just a couple hundred clicks up the road its a nice town too. I've done alot of traveling over the last 2 years finally settled down I drove 60k miles last year all over the country... so I've been to alot of towns I know a little about them all but indy is a good place It snows like a SOB there though just so you know....

LoL... yo. I saw a nice good ol post talkin about Nap and I thought I'd join in. Yea I'm from Indy (Nap). The food here is just like any other town, the night life is pretty decent. There are some good places downtown to go depends if you're lookin to party or what you're scene is. You've also got Broadripple which is a real popular hang out for singles, northside, Carmel pretty good places. As for design work... there's a spot open at FinishLine for a production artist :), which is on the East side of Indy, around post road. Like I told someone else who asked me about the design industry here... it's pretty scarce, hard to find a job unless you've got a lot under your belt. I've lived on both the west side and east side of Indy. Meh... don't know what else more to say... to me it's nothin spectacular, but I've been here all my life LoL.

Hey simplistik
Ill be living somewhere on Broadway ... i think around 12th or 13th st ...
(here is your chance stalkers start taking notes) yeah i wish
But yeah what little time i spent in Indy last fall I did go to Broadripple and
see a band im really into play @ the patio ... and it was great and that area
seemed to be a real jumpin night spot. Im a real music geek and I was really
happy to find Luna Music ... do you know of any other good places to find
music ... as in the old analog vynil type ?
The couple of leads i have work wise are very ... well boring sounding stuff but
to me any work in design/web is better than selling people stuff i dont even like ...
Thanks for the info:)
and if I want to fit in do I need to start using Nap instead of Indy?:)

man last night my friends and I drove down to Indy, headed for the Cheesecake Factory at heason mall (sp?) but we missed the exit and ended up in downtown indy. i must say that place looks pretty sweet :D
we asked for directions at a hotel and finally ended up at our destination 1 hour later. we might have taken longer because our 'navigator' screwed up (again), and if we didnt realise we were heading in the wrong direction...anyway, dinner was good :)
the most ironic thing was that we were joking about how if we got lost it would be like harold&kumar..and then we did get lost.

the move = a breeze
thats if you dont count the fact that i left tulsa 3 hours late because i got
the car packed up to the brim and then remembered that i had packed my $$$
in one of the box's!!!!! smart huh??? so had to unpack and repack the car _
nightmare but once i was on the road it was the usual route i take to Chicago
just with a right turn somewhere in there _ there was an hour delay due to a
wreck somewhere outside st. louis and then my ramp to Chicago/Indianapolis
was closed in st. louis so i had to get creative and that took about an hour _
over all easy 11 hour trip _ and then upon arrival unpack the computer
_ tv _ xbox _ cd's/dvds_other junk @ 1am !!!
So now i just have to find a job and things will be super smooth !!!!
Just got the desk/dsl network thing worked out and let me say I have never
had it so good _ my friend has set me up in the spare room with a huge vintage
metal office desk and next to that is her imac :) and behind me is my 27" sony tv
and xbox/gamecube/supernintendo/etc. _so im pretty lucky i would say _ and my
first day here (my birthday) she took me to a great indie music store and i got to
blow $75 on records/cd's/dvd's :) so finally got the Placebo "once more with feeling" dvd and cd w/ bonus disc !!!!!! Life is looking pretty good these days and i hope my current good karma spreads to all my kind friends here on kirupa :) thanks all
