Hey guys.. there's a business start-up in my area that approached me to help them do a full identity and webpresence for the new company. This whole thing is from scratch, they didnt even have a name when we started..

Here's the lowdown of the new business: it is going to be a gormet botique located in a downtown area. They are going to be selling all kinds of wine, cheeses, and oldworld style decor... there is also going to be a wine celler for tastings, and they are working with a high end chef inorder to do private parties with food and winetastings. So it caters to a higher-end crowd. I wanted something hip looking and very simple and clean, as I though it would look great paired against all the old world decor and style (think old italy, tuscani etc.). So what we came up with is a wordmark more than a logo with a cleaver name (I think)... the name is "davine" - meaning many things, Divine, The Vine, Of The Vine, etc. it works on a lot of levels.

Here are some of the proofs for it... and I am also having a sign made for them in a metal shop, I've included a quick render of my idea in the proofs. Its going to be machined out of sheet stainless steel, mounted a few inches off the brick, then back lit with either tube florescents, or LEDs I havent decided..... then part of it will be brush finished, while the other polished (the different finishes would correspond to the different shades of grey in the proofs).

Phew, got it all out... let me know what you guys thing of this first stage!

It looks good, used in the light advertisement. As for me, I prefer the 1 and the 2d variants, plus the 4th and the 5th underlined variants.

you don't have an all polished one to choose! :( j/k 6 would be my choice if the darker is the brushed and the lighter is the polished

very interesting, i think i like 1 and 4 the best. i like davine a lot but da vine sounds more like a new hip-hop group but along with the restraunt and brand image i think its pretty tight. I think the logo could benefit from some identifying symbol, wine glass or something but it looks good as is. Can't wait to see the sign, and to here any more advice you might wish to impart :)

Yes the light colored parts would be polished... I went to look at some metal finishes yesterday, and before I did so, I really wanted to have the majority (or all of it) polished, and the minority brushed, BUT I quickly realized that polished lettering becomes very difficult to read at an distance esp if it is sunny out (at night its all good, but who wants a sign you cant read diring the day?) - ultimatly its up to the customer, but I am going to recommend against it.

j_polo9: yeah... I'll drop you another PM soon... just been really busy :P

regarding Da Vine.. yeah I actually like that (so did the customers) just because it works on a nother level, and the "low-brow" meaning of it contrasts nicely with what the business really is... also being out of Chicago, people say 'Da + everything' so it works off the local accent as well. In all we liked it cuz it was ellegant, silly, lowbrow, luxurious, and casual all at the same time, depending on how you looked at it. ;)
I'm glad you like it. :thumb:

nothing's set in stone yet either... so it may develop into something a little different as we go through the process....

more C&C welcome!

I like 8 the most, then 6.

Modified the line under 'da'. Just an idea!
