View Full Version : Site of the Week (February 10 - February 17)
kirupa
February 10th, 2005, 09:36 PM
If you wish to be considered for this week, please read the summary of rules:
1) Reply by the end of February 17th to be considered for this week's award.
2) Include the URL and your email address.
Only the webmaster/creator of the site can submit.
Only one submission per person per week.
Submissions are capped at 10 entries each week, so don't wait or hesitate until the last minute. Entries beyond the 10 entry limit will not be eligible for the SOTW for that particular week.
Include a brief synopsis of your site inluding its purpose, or maybe some features you wouldn't want anyone to miss.
3) Your site does not have to be full Flash to be eligible. Whilst you still must employ Flash to some extent, we are also looking for the overall design and usability of your site, not just your Flash skills.
4) While it is understood that sites are perpetually under construction, please submit only complete sites. Do not submit a site that is less than 80% finished.
5) Submissions must be actual websites with sections and content. Examples of ineligible include (but not limited to) flash games, movies, etc.
6) There will be a private poll among the moderators and a winner will be announced.
7) No critiques or feedback is allowed in the submission thread. If you wish a concentrated critique of your site, you may start a thread in Site Check. However, mod critiques will be posted when a winner has been selected.
For more information or questions, please refer to the Official SOTW Rules. Once you have read and understand the rules above, you may submit your site to this thread. Sites not adhering to the rules above will be disqualified and deleted. Submitting your site is an agreement and acceptance of the rules.

Synopsis:
Basically the agency (The Collective) and I wanted to go with a more organic feel for the website, with less waffle about "what we can do for you" and just illustrate the quality of the work. I've tried to capture the essence of what they wanted, and you'll see some Kirupa influences in there as well ;) There is also a web-based extranet which can be accessed from the site, but for security reasons I'm not going to post up log-in information. Hope you enjoy :D

The purpose of this site was to give a memorable look but to keep the site professional. There is a Flash and Dialup version, but please direct your attention to the Flash version, the dialup version had a deadline of 1 week and that is hard to balance with life lol :) . I designed this site about a year ago when i was 15. Thanks

I would like to submit my web site (portfolio). It is a laid back site that I had a lot of fun making. It was inspired by my last vacation. A little background info on the site: The three center sections are dynamically generated based on a PHP/MySQL combo. Also a large amount of the tweening is done via actionscript. Enough technical babble. I hope you guys enjoy it. Good luck to every one.

Nothing extremey unique, but clean, balanced and beautiful. For those of you who think it looks to much like a known site/forum, I have discussed it with the members of that forum and the majority have agreed it is a design coincidence. Email me directly for documentation.
Anyway, hope you all like it.

Well like you, I had been waiting for ages to submit a site for "Site of the Week" to no avail. I finally decided to the Sites of the Week (http://www.kirupa.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=23) forum, and subscribe to the thread. This means that you get an update everytime someone either posts a new message or starts a new thread.
With over 26,000 members, and most of those wanting to submit their own sites for approval, it is the only logical way you will be kept up to date with when a new Site of the Week comp is started (unless you can manage to bribe Kirupa to email you when it starts with a fancy car and an exclusive penthouse apartment...) ;)

Hello there everyone,
Haven't been around in a while. Been swamped with work for the past 2 years! :D
This is the latest work my studio has completed for a major pharmaceutical group located in Protugal.
http://www.grupotecnimede.com
The site is a hybrid Flash / php / mysql / xml platform.
Fresh, slick design
Interesting to check out considering the sites in the pharmaceutical industry are pretty weak design wise. We hope this changes things a little.
The site features many functionalities like a fully integrated backend for content management / contact management - pharmaceuticals multi-level searching...
Give it a visit
fingers crossed until you pronounce your decision

Congratulations to terotero for winning this week's SOTW! You will be featured on the main page of kirupa.com for this week. You may also post a graphical award from this page: http://www.kirupa.com/gallery/awards.htm (http://../gallery/awards.htm)
Good job to all the participants. One of the valuable aspects of SOTW is to get valuable feedback about your site and get an idea of how well it stands beside some of the best on the web.
Critiques will be posted tomorrow!
--------------------------
Seanmee - while your site is excellent, I was informed of an issue where a small piece of graphic on your site was borrowed from 24-7. Even though 24-7 was OK with it, the mods and I felt that it would be unfair to consider you for the SOTW.
I know it is really picky of us to do this, but we want to ensure that future submitters don't get the wrong idea and are more blatant in their borrowing of content from others than you were.

kirupa.com has been the portal of my internet knowledgment, almost everyday i was checking to get something and when i realized i got SOTW i was really happy!
I didn't think we could win, because we have our own weird taste and sometimes is far from what could be considered "professional"..
So me and my girlfriend (100% of terotero int) want to share our joy with you. we're very proud of this, thanks kirupa and thanks seanmee, 'cause we learnt from your old sotw as well.

The splash page does not look professional. You should remove the borders from the tables or add some background color to make the table borders not stand out as much. The actual animation on the main page is really good and clean. One suggestion would be to work on the logo/name that you have on your home page. Intravenus-Online.com seems a bit too long and dull to be displayed on every scene of your animation. The transitions are really good though!
l-train
Wow - great site with some great colors. I wasn't a big fan of the tree, so in my view, your pages would have looked perfect if you simply didn't use the trees. The leaves on the tree don't look realistic either. Besides that, this is a great site!
kaisersouze
Loading the intro took a while on my fast connection, but after entering though, the wait was worth it. The site is really unique and looks like a nice brochure. One major gripe I have with is the use of fonts. Having your main content in Bold makes it hard on the eyes, and the fonts used for the navigation and copyright are a bit blurry.
sleepyball
Nice site, but it doesn't look polished enough. There are a lot of areas where some minor details detract a lot from the overall animation. The white jagged edges around a lot of the graphics are one example of a minor detail that was overlooked. Besides that, the site is pretty good. In future versions, you may want to rework the color scheme and experiment with different fonts.
mlkedave
Really nice, clean site. My only gripe with this is, that some of the text is not legible. With the exception of the header and the navigation, you may have been better of leaving the content in HTML form. HTML is great for displaying a lot of content - especially for an informative site such as what you are doing.
ndemik
Great site, and some really good use of color. One minor issue that bugged me was the reflection of the flowers on the bottom-right corner of your animation. It doesn't look realistic, and it seems to detract from the animation. Besides that, the colors and the graphics are simply great!
seanmee
Same as last week! Great site!
hatetofakeit
The changes you made are really good. I still have an issue with the navigation though. I shouldn't have to hover over your icons in order to see a text caption describing what the content is. The content caption should be visible by default so that I won't have to spend extra time hovering over all of your buttons in order to find out where I should go.
terotero
Wow! Really nice site, and it is very unique. It's one of the more bizarre sites I've seen, but that's what makes it really good. It kinda sticks in your mind for a while even after I close the browser. Good work!
rkdesign
Nice site, but could do with better fonts. I don't like the music player either, I don't think it fits in properly with the rest of the site.
