;)
but heīs right.
This is from the top of my head, what i can recall of my classes:
in the XV centuries they thought that this was caused by a wicth, which was siting on the chest of the 'victim' in a atempt to kill it, or ghosts, demons, voodoo, etc..
Later on they discovered that this happens due to a sudden brain hiper activity causing the person that was in a deep sleep (teta level i think) to instantly awake, thus jumping the beta and alfa sleep levels, and leaving the subject sound and countious but with little muscle control. the person experiences a sensing of invisible trap, from which he canīt free himself imediately.
--------
Sleep levels:
- alfa: the subject is half concious, first 5-15 min;
- beta: the subject is unconcious, 15-30 min;
- teta: R.E.M., dreams, deep sleep. it lasts about 30 min, then it goes back to beta, when the beta-teta loop begins.

Fez, I agree, on the weekends, I enjoy being an insomniac so your paralysis comment is a compliment. =)

Blah.. BAH BAH BAH
BAAAAHHHH
Anyways.. :)
Yeah I know about the sleep stages.. They teach that kind-a stuff to Seal members so that they can get optimum sleep.
They teach members how to stay in teta for hours instead of returning back to beta.. I for one can stay in teta for hours when I am having a really good dream.. But.. If it's in the morning.. I will experience a beta-teta looping cycle.
