Hey guys, as always, appreciate the critiques. So whatcha think is missing in this one? What could I improve and what is good?
I am gonna add flash to it of course.
on the bottom right the f1s, yeah i don't have a logo yet, so i used that as filler... either way...what do you guys think?
Thanks,
Joel
I've added another one on there, lowered glow, and changed the BG color, lightened it a lil.

It looks great, a bit too bright on the eyes but it looks good. Only thing is theres alot of these exact same sites out there that have the same design as this. Im not saying you ripped anyone or anything but iv seen sites pretty similar to this one.

Nice i like it. But:
I dont think the main background color goes well with the content back color.
I would remove the glow effect round the edges. Maybe try less glow also, but what you have now is too much glow.
I cant see the copyright text.
Thats it mate and good job so far :)

Thanks guys, I just want to throw up something real quick for a portfolio, while I'm working on another project. I had to lower the quality so the attachment would fit, but I'll lower the glow and see if that takes care of some of the visual aspects.
What color do you think the bg should be? Lighter blue? White?
Think the "S" should be lowered a little until I get a logo fixed up?
*i look at it here on my computer of doom at work and it (the quality) looks horible.*

i think it looks great as it is, the advice that i can give you: i would lower the glow a bit (it's a bit too bright) and for your menu and loading bar i'd use a darker blue, i can see what it's said, but i had to look closely. for the background: i would leave it as it is, i like it a lot, but if you do want to make some changes, maybe a tad lighter, but i like how it looks now.
other than the fact of it being a bit too bright, i like it a lot, clean & simple, great job :thumb:

yeah as I look at it now, the glow seems to be overwhelming....i'll make some changes and post a rendition, and I'll see what you guys think, that'll be when I get home, at work now! thanks for all the replies.
ahaha i just noticed the F and the S aren't layered correctly.

The design has been done before, like b3NKobe said, maybe this is because it's a nice design!?
I think the loadbar-thingee is too 3d compared with the rest of the layout. Can be more in style with the rest.
I agree with the comments on the wow glow.

Also are you using a flat screen or a CRT monitor? On my laptop and flat panel the colors of blue do not go well together. But on my CRT it is ok. The design is not to pioneering but with motion it could be a good darn design.

i'm back home now, the way i see it now it's perfect, on my flat screen at work the menu and all wasn't really clear, the blur was a bit overwhelming, but as i look at it now on my CRT it looks great. couldn't even see the thin lines on the light blue background, but now i can see them. don't know if you made this on a CRT or not, but i run into the same problem when i make a design at home. things appear to be darker on a flat screen. designing on a CRT s*cks sometimes...

Thijs:
Yeah I noticed that too about the loader bar, but nobody else said anything so i thought it was all good ;) Well have to take that small bevel off and maybe add a stroke with low opacity. Any other suggestions?
DDD:
I have a flat screen and a laptop at home and it looks better than here on my 1956 monitor here at work. lol
I am hoping to change the bg and add some good flash transitions so it will 'liven' the site up a lot.

Darkchild - I design on a laptop and a flatscreen monitor. And I think it looks good on that, when I get here to work on this CRT is when it looks dark and can't really see much. :( Any suggestions on making it friendly for both types?

i have the exact same problem, the thing i do is to find colors that work on both screens. try to darken or enlighten (sp?) the color you want, and try them out on both screens. don't think there's anything else you could do to solve that problem. if i'm wrong, feel free to give some other advice, but i just don't think there's anything else

It looks good, however I would suggest making the borders around the boxes slightly thinner. Also, the bar under the nav doesn't really need to be that big. The tabs show you which section you're in.
the f1s box needs an image.
