It has happened. The day I always feared... ADWARE ON FIREFOX!
Everytime I click a link it goes to an Orbits ad... I have to press BACK to get where I was going.

A link as any link in general on a website? Explain better...
This could break my heart!

Funny how some of those folder names aren't even real. "C:\Windows\Systems lol.
Sorry to hear about your FF, I bet a fix will be up soon if more people run into this problem.

goto Spreadfirefox.com or the mozilla page and tell them... that way they can check it out and fix the loophole.

aww this is a shame to see! I promote FF to all my friends and family now that won't hear my "go get a mac" speach. :P
are you experienced with windows file system to know what belongs and what doesn't? You *could* try to hunt for it manually in the Program Files dir and the registry. I've had lots of success removing spyware/adware that way, but as I said, if you don't have the experience or knowledge, this isn't a recommended process.

You should try switching the default to IE (temporarily of course) and see if the windows come up then. My guess is that it's just pushing HTML pages to the default browser. Not sure how it got on there though. So, did you try MozillaZine?

Do an online scan, making sure the auto-clean feature is turned on
http://housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
Download and install Winpatrol
http://www.winpatrol.com/
or SpyBot from
http://www.safer-networking.org/en/index.html
Whenever ur in doubt about a virus or ad, search for it's removal on
http://securityresponse.symantec.com/ or
http://www.trendmicro.com/vinfo/
And install an Antivirus!
Just because u use firefox, it doesn't mean ur protected from viruses.Firefox must also be configured for safe browsing, same as IE.

Still evading all my software. I've tried PestPatrol, Bazooka, Spybot, Spysweeper(first time its let me down), AdAware, hell I've even run virus scans.
Whuts MozillaZine? How the heck am I going to get them to fix it if I don't even know what is causing this!? Nothin shows up in Add/Remove Progs (obviously), nor can anything pick it up.
It seems to be affecting Firefox only, because I'm using IE fine.
Not only am I experiencing ads, but extreme slowdown in performance too. It takes 6 seconds for Firefox to startup when I click on the icon, 15 through another program (i.e. clicking a link in an email or something in ThunderBird)
I'm so helpless. :(:(:(:(

Yeah, this was bound to happen. It's like people making Mac viruses, but quicker. Adware people have noticed FF is popular, and are now coding stuff for FF. If they can do it in Netscape, FF is very easy for them.
I suggest MozillaZine, as I'm sure people have started doing stuff for it, and a new release should come out. Also, make sure you immunize on spybot.
Cheers! *goes to MozillaZine*

really, was all that hype about firefox being adware free necessary?
"firefox is a good alternative for those who hate ad-ware!"
"firefox is completely ad-ware free since ad-wares are built for IE!"
now isnt that just tempting to ad-ware developers :P

it's just a matter of mathematics, if you want to disturb the most of the people, u aim for the tools more users use. when firefox market share grow, it's a sure fact that more problems will arise. :(
