lol.

There's no shortcut to learning Flash. Although 3d Nirvana might be being a little obtuse :-)

I've been learning flash for only 7 months but consider myself a more than accomplished actionscripter. How did I do it? I bought books, lot's of them! Following tutorials is great for picking up interesting bits of flash, but a book aimed at people starting up will have everything you need to kickstart your Flashing.

If you're serious about learning then I would thoroughly reccommend the Friends of Ed series as a starting point, first point of call would be Foundation Flash MX 2004 ( You've posted this in the Flash 5 forums, but you'd be better off going at least to flash MX, if not MX2004). Next stop Foundation Actionscript for Flash MX 2004.

I started learning off the web, but there's no direction to the stuff you pick up and you aren't neccessarily learning the things you NEED to know.

Once you know what you're doing then everything will seem that much easier. Flash is amazing, and good on you for wanting to learn it. Make no mistake though that there is a huuuuuuuuuuge amount of stuff to learn, but you don't need to know it all by any stretch of the imagination to start creating funky things in Flash.

BTW, 3D nirvana - I didn't read the manual :-)

I agree with him. No shortcut to learning flash really. I read the manual and books. I try to build something and when I run into a problem I find the answer in some book or the manual, and keep doing this until I don’t really run into problems anymore.

Cheers!

Just further to this, here are some sites I found helpful and inspirational

http://www.kirupa.com - great tutorials and some really smart people in these forums

http://www.actionscript.org - as above

http://www.levitated.net - jared tarbell is a flash god. Download some of his computational art experiments and see how they are put together. Very
inspiring.

http://www.bit-101.com - Homepage of a very clever guy called Keith peters. Some great tutorials and interesting experiments.

http://www.actionscripthero.com (http://www.actionscripthero.com) - if you haven't heard of Colin Moock you soon will. This site can be considered a portal of hundreds and hundreds of actionscript tutorials out there.

http://www.senocular.com - a regular poster on these forums and actionscript.org - one day you'll be glad you bookmarked this site. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow...but soon, and for the rest of your life :-)

http://www.flashkit.com - seems to have gone downhill of late I'm afraid to say, but nonetheless a huge resource of open source flash goodliness.

http://www.friendsofed.com - buy their books. 'Nuff said!

http://actionscript-toolbox.com/ - does exactly what it says on the tin.

If you've got the time after reading all this lot, why don't you even check out 3D Nirvana's site? No tutorials, but it's a nice Flash site and I think it's pretty inspirational (and I hope you don't mind me saying Nirvana) that someone who's only 15 can already be such a competent web developer.
