great, half way through the process of payment, i figured out that it never told me how many years i would be locked in.:-\

My domain required to be purchased for two years initially. But it let me know that. If it didn't notify you, then its most likely 1 year. You can always check your domain expiration through a whois lookup at any registrar.

they should be just a little more clear about how many years i will have it.:bandit:

Well they probably are. You do have to pay for it you know, and they can't just pretend charge you for the amount of time you have it.
They charge you yearly, so if they only charged one years worth, then you only have it for one year. I had to pay for 2 years because I had to sign up for 2 years. They usually give you an option of how many years you want it. If not... then you probably only have it for one.
Who did you get your domain from?

Ok
1) Don't go with tripod. They charge an arm and a leg. They offer a 1 year or 2 year Plan.
1 year @ 34.95/ year = $34.95 total cost
2 years @ 34.95/ year = $69.90 total cost
yeah, that is super expensive.
(took me like 2 seconds find it :-\)
2) I recommend www.godaddy.com or www.registerfly.com

are they safe to use with credit card info?

godaddy and registerfly are excellent. I personally do not use them, but I am planning on switching because I use www.mydomain.com and they are more expensive than registerfly and godaddy.
But yes, they are trustworthy.

Yeah, domain names and hosting services are completely different.
I have a domain name, but my friend is letting me mooch his server space until I can afford my own host :sigh:

I suggest www.ipowerweb.net it is only $8 a month for one year, 7 a month for 2 years, and if you get the one or two year plan they register the domain for free, and they register it to the credit card holders name.

i dont know, everyone seems to have a good name as their domain name.

February 28th, 2003, 07:10 PM
Thats a matter of opinion though. With a name, some people like it, some people don't. If you like it, that is all that matters since it is your domain name.
Alex
February 28th, 2003, 07:11 PM
true, i think im going to use the second one.=)
