View Full Version : So what I'm I looking at for hosting costs.

I'm building a site where webdesigners, writers and artist can put up a portofolio.

basicly a acount comes with this.
a subdomain.
for website's: You are able to add 3 screenshots of 640*480 basicly that size that is needed per site. and a buntch text.
for text: Basicly all the text + One picture(short of a title picture with fanfiction. or just a picture relivent to the text.)
for large posters: (max)1mb pictures.

pretty much that's it. ofcorse everything is splited up into other theme's.

I don't have anymembers yet but the system is pretty much programmed. but I guess loads of people will use the service when it's up and running.

curently Thekrazykennyshow is hosting me for now. wich is cool because it's still pretty much develpment stages. I want to get this all done in 4 to 5 months. programming & designing.

It's all a one man show atm. I want to programm the perceft system for everyone so I'm still not really happy with what I got. Maybe I'll start with invites and make some people beta users like gmail. :P

pretty much only more advanced stuff for website's and writers. I want to have a sort of "newgrounds.com" portal system. with the portofolio of devianart.

I'd suggest looking into advertising. It's not going to be cheap.

if it is a good resource for developers and designers you may get the hosting donated.

Yeah samething, its not going to be cheap for the hosting, once you start to get alot of members signed up with their own stuff uploaded the costs will start comming....

yep.. I know this. I've got about 2000 euro's to start this one off and I've only have one advertiser that will come throw for sure. the others are still waiting.

Another expense you will surely run into is bandwidth so you'd def need some kind of backup from advertisers to help you as I imagine your bandwidth use will be very heavy. Are you going to be using a daabase? if so what type? these can also spiral quickl in size when doing a project like yours.

I've seen some hosting companies profiding unlimeted bandwidth. or bandwidth round the 80GB.

thats what you need then, unlimited bandwidth would be good but then 80gig would be good to start off...

Sweet man.. I'm really exited about this site.. I mean If we've got a large site I could have site ranking.

There's this simple javascript tag thing you put on your site listing all the stuff your site has won on the site.

site of the week.
site of the month
site of the year
Admins pick (everymonth)
users choice award. (basicly if your site is in the top 50)
king of the portal (if your nr 1 in the portal)

you can't think of the posibilities. This site is going to have it. i know I'm going to be programming 24/7 this summer.
