I'm going to college after this summer, and I'm going to bring my new Dell computer desktop. Well, you know how college is: Jack left; jack right. You can easily jack a computer and transport it to another dorm in 60 seconds flat. Gone in 60 seconds (the movie)! So I need a lock. Do you have a suggestion on a lock that is strong and non-destructive to the desktop?

Chains n' padlocks :)

Are there any desktop locks or anything, I have a lock for my laptop, but iv never seen one for a desktop. At my college / school, they have these like metal wires, that are padlocked to the desks, that run through these rings attatched to each computer + monitor.

I dont think you need anything hefty. Often, if its not easy to snatch, it wont be snatched. Especially in a college environment where there's usually a lot of people around, theives are looking for the quick and easy so they can get in get what they need and get out without being spotted. Having anything fairly decent and somewhat visible should be fine. Most thefts at my college were from peoples cars, so maybe thats where you should put most of your attention (dont leave your car unattended when moving that computer in ;))

Thefts are pretty common if you leave your room unlocked. In the dorm where I live, laptops are one of the more popular things to be stolen from students' unlocked rooms. In fact, I picked up a few laptops that way....j/k!

If you lock your room when you leave, you probably won't need to get a lock for your pc. Besides, it's a lot difficult to steal a PC desktop. But, if you are worried about theft, you'll probably feel better with a lock like the one Butters mentioned.

I personally won't leave my door open, but my roommate (chosen randomly) might.

Alternatively, you could mount a GPS tracking device in your PC and then track someone who steals it and lead a police raid into their dorm and become the hero of the campus =)

I had 3 randomly chosen room mates my first year, and that policy worked well. I never bothered locking up my laptop, and it wasn't stolen either :beam:
