Agreed. Not the best, not really even a "cool" site in my opinion, the transitions are just too weak in my opinion, and its not really an original concept, the nav has been done before, etc.

I am moving this to showcase....nothing real show-stopping here. o ther than the fact he is 14  maybe we should have a 16 and under section so people will stop posting sites by young folks just because they are young.

It has a Flash detection script, if you don't have Flash you'll see this page: http://www.neverrain.net/noflash.html
As for originality, that wasn't really my main purpose. I just wanted to get my information across clearly.
I'm happy with it so that's all that matters right? ;)

Because I SUCKED at that age. Ok, Im not much better now, but I definitely gained abilities with age and became more perceptive as I grew not only in education but in maturity.
Then again, I didn't have computers at 14 or whatever; I just watched a lot of HBO and The Monkees back then :D

:thumb: totally.
Yeah... this site is very "meh" - looks like a collage of a few other sites. Oh and the age thing... :sigh: I have to agree with DDD
All-in-all though it is a pleasant looking site. One thing though... do you really think you need search functions in your portfolio when there are like 10 total things in it :sigh: ;)
Peace

nope, that's not it. he posted a .com at first and that is where it takes u. Nah it was posted for critiques, so kinda that is all that matters is your happiness. But we K folks tend to be a lil harsh when things are put in "kool sites". That is why I moved it to "Showcase". It was not kool sites material. But the site is good (FOR ANY AGE). :beam:

Your comment quite annoyed me, just seeing you inserting the laughing face raised my tempers. I posted this site because I felt his site was worthy to really look at and spend time to admire. I commented about his age because I dont know personally people at 14 who can create such as website whether or not you think some of his site elements are weak or dull and no im sorry, I am not an industry professional who knows people at 14 who can already have such skills. Even at that age, I put myself same as his age and thought to myself, "Whether I could do it?". At 14, I couldnt. Where were the resources? I didnt even have the Internet back in 2002. So you dont consider this site to be a "cool" site and rather have a Geocities site? Because thats what Im feeling. Sorry Im fken ticked off. You might not consider this site to be almighty and super kool looking but I certainly do. I see the skills, I see the imagination. Whats different with this site, not being "kool" as you suggested than any of the other sites have been posted there? From time I started posting in the Kool Sites, I have received good feedback. I define "kool" as something you like to see, see visually from all levels of content and originality. Maybe if this wasnt made by Neverrain and I didnt mention 14, you would say something else? Yeh propably most likely. How many times have you posted in one of my submitted kool sites thread and not including this one? Suddenly I see you jumped into this one, especially this one.

hey chill up guys
D 2nd post..he said sorry about the age thing ;)
my comments on this site...definatly one of the best members site i'v seen..infact the 2nd best after electronicgeeks site (maybe mine too:P kiddin) still not consider it to be in kool sites section, age has got nothin to do wid profession as far as creativity is concerned...i mean if u talk about some other profession lik being a hit man hahah age does matter there...i myself was a professional dj at age of 13..played till i was 18 ;)
peace folks ;)

Bottom line is that I posted Neverrain's site to be kool because I thought it was a good, decent website for someone at that age to already have good design skills and something new to look at unlike professional folios and agenices sites we see frequently. I dont care whether you dislike it or not because thats your own opinion but I dont like like the age comment. I mean his 14 and creating such a decent website, I think thats da*n good.

I am sorry I offended. I t was not the intent. But "kool sites" is something that the mods discussed prior to making this forum. And it just did not fall in the category. Nothing personal or age dependant. I mentioned age because because people have used it as a safety net in the past. Like if it sucked "oh I am only 14" but if it was great "wow he did this and he is only 14". Sorry you got hte tail end of my sentiment. But I am not the only one who felt it was not kool. Anyway like I said the site is good just not kool site material. Which is why I did not delete it but brought it over to showcase so it could be discussed and disected.
Design is not age dependant. So when this dude is 60 he should be the uber designer? When you know your sh!t you just know your sh!t.
furthermore we all know a kool site when we see it. It makes you go wow!! How in the $%#% did they do that or think of that. Not oh that site is cool because a 14 year old made it. There has to be a line drawn. I am sorry yours fell below it.

ahm...i think everyone was under an impression that mike likes the site coz its done by a 14 yr old and thot of it to be an achievement, right?
mike clear it out will ya ;)
(correct me if i am wrong) Dont think that guy also did'nt mentioned his age on the site so that means even he was'nt preparing any safety nets or boasting himself to be an achiever at his age, so allz cool =)
totally agree with D that this site doesn't belong to kool sites area.

Or did he just make the site for another designer?

Nothing to clear up thats what he said Jas, not really merit for a kool site. Thats what I meant by people using age as a safety net. I did not mean to offend anyone.

Erm how about we get back to posting comments about the site ppl?
The sparky things, I dont like, not realistic enough. Although the site overall is nice it doesnt come at you enough and seems kinda flat.
And maybe attatch the content boxes to something, they seem outa place.
=guinness=
January 8th, 2005, 11:49 PM
i agree, i dont like the sparks especially with the annoying sizzle with everytime they start. the design looks like it could be refined a little, it's rather bland and while the color scheme works, it too is bland. It reminds me more of a winamp skin than a portfolio. most of all the transitions are slow and jerky in the easing.
on a positive note:
the graphics were well made, the site had a conistent theme and look to it.
you can tell a good amount of effort was put into the site.

so thats why you haven't been online nr, bastard! Why didnt you keep me posted :P Looks good but the section transitions, i feel are not "enough" although i think its fine and looks good but it lags a little.
The button rollovers are fantastic, i like the fonts and the overall look. Spark on wires are really nice. Colors are cool too :)

i basicly have no life and i talk to neverrain on AIM all day when i dont hang with my girl friend and i learned a lot about him he is like a brother now lol
he lives at home in colrado and is home schooled;) but its not by his parnets its by school progrems for the computer so basicly he can do the work and learn at the same time. also young minds brains are like a spunge you can teach english and spanish to a 3 year old then a 39 year old faster.
but its all in all good neverrain's site dosnt blow my face off in amazement and half the people here on kirupa dont amaze me but i really like his work. i dont know how he does it but he works with some perdy famouse people such as eyewake.
so all i am saying is this, at 14 this was my web site
http://tripod.com/converseonfire/ (this is when i had my first girl friend lol we made a site about prank calls ya i was a dork)
(yet i wasnt even a web site designer then really i was stell just making music)

Is all the content dynamic?
Yes, all the text and images are loaded dynamically from XML files. I really wanted to make it as easy to update as possible so I wouldn't have such a hassle changing things like on the previous version.
I mentioned age because because people have used it as a safety net in the past. Like if it sucked "oh I am only 14" but if it was great "wow he did this and he is only 14".
I'm not trying to win any favorites here by playing off my age, as Jasninder said I didn't even mentioned my age anywhere on my new website and don't plan on doing so in the future.
it says he is employed by a design firm in the profile bit - and he's 14 - did he leave school early?
No I didn't drop out. As Idoik said, I'm homeschooled so I can do school work when I have free time as long as it gets finished.
I work off site, so it's not like I'm going into work everyday. :P
Hope that sums most of it up for you all. :D

Don't mind it, as said transitions are a bit weak.
It's impressive for a 14yo, but mind you, technology/ideology has changed since most of us were 14.

It's all good, definitely there are room for improvements here and there, but definitely it's a more than a good start!! KEEP IT UP!! :D
About age discussion..
I have to agreee with DDD, age is not an issue, age doesnt has anything to do with it. However I too feel amazed to see there are so many young talented and skillfull people nowadays ya?
but then again, I believe that we're all start from nothing, I start learning design a few years back, I must say I have been improving alot since then, same case for Minimalistic, the only different is the time we started learning design. He started it at the age of [?], while I started at the age of 25.
but we're all still learning arent we all?

Thats the new statement of the day! Its true, i mean if i was home schooled and put in front of a computer since i was like 3 I would be dope with design now, i started learning at 15 (im only 16 now) which means a 14 YO has probably had more experience than me.

well I have seen some home schooled folks that have turned out to be real Bozo's. Especially if it ends up being a case of the blind leading the blind. If you have the attention span of a rock then......
Anyway cool site for any age. When I was 14 I was a hoop prodigy. And used to get tired of the "wow and he is only 14 jabs".

LoL, I dun get it... what's that have to do w/ the price of tea in China?
Most ppl are home schooled because their parents prefer the 1 on 1 teaching instead of public school, not because the are "clever".

well if you put all your mind and effort.. home schooled or not, going to design school or not, learning by yourself or from school.. they don't make any different.
and i think that for this design stuff.. a better way to ask this question is: how long have you been learning, not how old are you
BUT STILL
I'm mpressed to see young talented individual nowadays.
