Well I got a well (emphasis on WELL) cheap laptop a few days ago just use it for word processing etc but only has 256 mb ram, this is the laptop specification page -
This is the laptop spec page (http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_1000?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs&~tab=specstab#tabtop)
AND this is the ram I am guessing will go in it (never had a laptop ever before)
The ram (http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?rb=4155536503&action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X3Jldmlld3M=&product_uid=33090)
Thank you very much for your time

cheers Butters - every time I go on the dam thing I get 'ran out of memory' when doing a few SMALL tasks but another 256mb ram will easily correct this.
P.S why do any computers come with 256mb ram? of which windows uses 90%

Because it's cheaper, and companies can then say, 'WOW, look at this computer, its only £200!'
Some people only need 256mb aswel, not everyone uses big apps, some just have a computer for the internet and e-mail, thats it, so it would make sense to put less RAM in.

I'm about to buy a new computer, and I'm going for at least 1gig of RAM and lots of HD space. I have 640 MB now and sometimes I even run out of memory when I'm running Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash, Mozilla, Outlook, iTunes and Explorer together ... and I don't want to run out memory because those are crucial to me !
Point in the above jibberjabber is that you can never have enough memory ;)

While we're on the subject, I got a question. All the SDRAM I see have eight little memory things, what kind of RAM is it if it has nine? I bought two sticks of 256MB in another country so theres no way to return it and my computer doesn't recognize it.

voetsjoeba I have 1.5 gig of ram on my desktop :) I do all the graphics stuff on my desktop and intend to do programming, word etc on laptop. I know where you are coming from though I like to listen to some rap while playing games, programming......never run out of memory though on my desktop.
Maxtr0sity I wish I could help but the ram you describe doesn't sound like any SDRAM or DDR ram...sorry :)
