Ahh... to be a woman in today's society. Run up a $20,000 debt getting too much Starbucks and Prada pumps? No problem - do a little begging on the internet:
http://www.savekaryn.com
Surely there will be a "generous donors" who will contribute at least $2,714.11 (http://www.savekaryn.com.futuresite.register.com/_wsn/page5.html) (total as of right now).
I shouldn't be irked by this but it really challenges my "if it floats your boat" attitude.

It was funny though! I like this particular sentence:
"A computer is a necessary part of being a human in today's society. I cannot live without one. It's kind of like undereye cream. It's something that everyone needs."
I agree that a computer is vital... but good god - what would I do without my undereye cream? OMFG?! :P

lol, what will people stoop down to for money??
Hey Phil,
Long time no see. Just checked out your site and the dark setup looks really nice. Btw, have you ever considered using AOL Instant Messenger? I can't get ICQ nor Trillian to work and I'm quite baffled as to why.
Cheers!

Hey Phil, I checked out your site. It is cool. But what I really want to know is.....
IS THAT THE APHEX TWIN LOGO IN THE BG!!!???
I love Aphex Twin! And I would swear that that is your background pattern. I only caught a quick glimpse of it before the page loaded so I wasn't sure.
Well, I guess thats it, other than this crazy site of Karyn begging for money. Funny what people would do, it really is.

I don't know guys, this is really the last straw. What a scam.
I would, even if that was true, even if I knew her personally give her any money what so ever. After reading her little updates I was so pissed...she kept dropping brand names of things she had or has...come on...and her thousand pants...let mom and dad pay that ****e for that spoiled brat.
But I am sure its a scam, so whoever did this is really smart and resourceful. And if those stats for the site are correct, then I woudl loev to know how this person got such a high visitor number...I wish I coudl produce such numbers.
But here is the deal, it almost feels liek a perverted thing to me, like ****, because you never see her face but somehow you know she coudl be attarctive...I am sure there are lots of pervs who are clinging on to that site and trying to write email and money and perhaps get her attantion (or his who knows who did taht scam). Anyways in atht case I don't want 90,000 oervs in one week visiting my site.
Just in case anybody replys and says they have that amount of traffic...I am talking about visitors, not hits...anybody can get a high number of hits...but you want to count your visits.
I wonder how many visits KIRUPA gets per day.week.month...
Would it be too much to ask to here the stats?

Hey Phil,
The background is used on your columnist's page. I didn't mean to snoop, but you saved it as pattern.gif. I figured if I could tell you which picture I was talking about it would help you even more.
Compare the pattern inside there with the logo of Aphex Twin The logo can be found in the grey background here....
www.aphextwin.nu
or a picture of it here...

Apparently mommy and daddy didn't pay for her Gucci and Prada... but she's basically asking US to pay for them. Nope, no picture of her face on there what-so-ever. She did state specifically in her FAQ that those who contribute get absolutely nothing... so I wouldn't call her a whore. Why would she give them anything - she's getting a pick at their wallet anyway. She's really nothing more than those bums who stand by the freeway asking for your spare change... except maybe she has a nicely air-conditioned booth and cabana boys flanking her sides fanning her. And she's asking for more than spare change, she's asking for $20,000. That's enough money to send some poor kid to a decent college.
I don't know about you, but almost three grand from total strangers is a lot. There are tons of people in debt because of medical bills, tuition, etc... not because they lived in the lap of luxury and now have to pay for it. Again, I know I shouldn't be irked by this - if people want to give their money to any cause, whether or not I personally find it worthy, it's their business. But it's annoying to think about! :P

Dan might be able to come up with a better Title Bar than I could, he is more proficient with 3DS MAX and also with scripting and everything than I, and he seems to have slightly more free time than i do. I am totally booked with 'jumping-out-of-cakes' gigs. Work and my friends take up too much of my **** time. And its about time I reformatted my computer again....I can still do it, but I won't really be able to do anything until I get back to school in the end of august. Early september.

I just thought maybe you hid it in there. I thought maybe I have finally found another Aphex Twin fan.
Here in Philly, mostly everyone listens to Rap. I hate Rap! I know of no one who likes Aphex Twin (or have even heard of him).
Well, as an attachment I included the brown block pattern. I removed the Aphex Twin logo to prevent any copywrite issues:)
If you want to use it you can, if not, then no biggie, took like 2 seconds to make.

I have a sugestion.
www.beat-karyn-with-her-prada-shoes.com
I think it would be very popular, or am I just being uncharitable?
I dunno, to run up that kind of debt and not realise it - sorry but how dumb have you got to be? It's a very simple equation really. Money comes in, money goes out. If more goes out than comes in, then you stop buying things - but then to ask the public in general to basicaly bail you out...
I'm going to keep my mouth shut I think, before I go off on one. :x

Phil: if your server allows cgi scripts to be run, I can set up Moveable Type (http://www.moveabletype.org/) for you. Moveable Type is god's gift to web authors! It makes posting an article a snap and updating layouts at once even easier. It also makes it easier to track hundreds and hundreds of articles. You can even divided your articles into categories - oh the possibilities!
I have been using MT for a while now - I love it!

Isn't CGI based on Perl or is it Perl itself? I use PHP so I'm not exactly a Binary pro!

Hey RenaissanceGirl,
I have never heard of this Moveable Type thing. It sounds interesting, I am definitely going to check it out. I have been looking for something like this for a while. I am currently using a PHP scripted news poster, but there aren't an extensive amount of possibilities with it. So I will give CGI a try!
Thanks :)

Beta - have you ever heard of Greymatter (http://www.noahgrey.com/greysoft/) or Blogger (http://www.blogger.com/) ?
Blogger is the more popular one... these were originally developed for an easy way to journal or post weblogs. But with the right modifications, they're very useful as news archives, art gallery/diary... and other things you might imagine. Greymatter and Moveable Type are also equipped with comment systems... a great way for readers to respond. I have tried many and Moveable Type is my favorite. Here's one of my weblogs done in Moveable Type:
I Can't Believe We're Not Addicted (http://www.pixelsensei.com/xtz/)
This particular one uses the comments as well as multiple authors. I've been meaning to implement categories, but alas my procrastinator ways are hindering me.

Everything is really back end... so viewers won't see how easy it is to write journal entries or articles and keep everything nicely organized and archived. And how easy it is to change layouts, hit the "Publish All" button and have all your articles (no matter how many) updated to the new layout. If your server allows Coldfusion, I'm sure cgi falls right into place.

Yup, you can use Dreamweaver to design your templates, insert the MT tags and voila!
I have no clue how it works backend-wise really. I just know how to install it and use it. It's easier than Actionscript. It's basically a series of online forms that work together to publish your stuff - much like this forum. If you choose to go for this, I'll walk you through it. But if I'm going to design an interface for you, you don't really need to worry about the Dreamweaver thing. Plus, you don't have to make a flash header on the on the sole basis that it will make updating the template easier.
It even works if you don't have MySql capabilities. At the very least, you just need to be able to run CGI scripts and be able to edit permissions.
If you want to give it a try, email me and I'll set up a temporary account for you on my system.

That moveable type thing is GREAT! I just installed it on my server. I am workin on a new template for it now though, because the default one is UUUUUGGGGGLYYY!!!!
I had so much trouble installing it, grrrrr, but then I realized I was just being stupid. I got the hang of it, installed it, and started using it right away.
Now for a template.....hmmmm.
THANKS RENN!

Phil, yes, I got your email... I responded to it but my email server was being a whiney little *****. I'll resend my response when I get home. I'd do it now but I'm out of sorts today and can't remember what you said exactly in the email (mentally, I'm still in weekend mode).

Oh, I found the thread. I saw the shirt. I love the design. I just have to find 15 bucks. I'm trying to save up for a 17 inch flatscreen tho... So I can't spare any money... And yes that does irk me that she got her money...

I'm not angry with Karyn specifically. She does seem really dimwitted to spend so much money (as Kit says), but clearly putting up this site solved her problems. So she took advantage of pervs and stupid people in general.
But this does say something about people in general. Apparently people will give their money to a "maybe-hottie" but screw the homeless and starving children? I guess this is the state of the nation.
The shirt rocks Jubs. Screw the flatscreen! They're not worth it, especially if you are a designer! It's just space saving. They do look cool, but until they go down to about $200-$300 for a 17 inch, I'm not budging!

I hear you on the flat screens, Ren...
def not worth the money right now...
as far as the begging thang...
I left another board I used to spend a decent amount of time... The admin of the board asked for members to "donate" to his trip to FlashCom... Because this guy had a website, he felt welcome to beg the members, which made his website popular, for money so he could go learn more stuff for free...
The bad part was, he got the money!
It's amazing to see how many people will give good money to someone who asks... I see it every day outside my house & pub...
disturbing...

Its the space saving that I'm after. In a college dorm, space is the most important thing there is. Also I was playing around with one today and it looked great. Videos, DVDs, running programs...very sharp...very clear. I will get the shirt eventually :)
RenaissanceGirl

Besides, in college you'll hardly ever be in your dorm.

Hmm... give ***** is different. It's more whoring rather than straight up begging, as she says she'll give a picture of her new ***** to the largest donators - fair enough. Karyn is more "give me money and you get nothing."
