******* Update 12.17.04 ****
Adding new colour scripts is complete along with the ability to edit your colours in your profile area. Side bar is now dynamic and colour details page is 90% complete.
******* Update 12.16.04 ****
I've added the mock-up for the side nav of colours.
Well nobody gets what this is without a pretty long explanation, but hopefully after it gets completed it will be easy to figure out.
The basic idea is to merge, hotornot.com with deviantart.com - but it's only a rating showcase for colors...
...Like you would submit a new color with the hex codes, a summary of what you used the color for, where you got your inspiration...
Other people browse the color swatches and rate what colors are hot.
You can also put a few of your submitted colors into a pallete. say you used 3 colors for a design and really liked the combination. you would enter in all 3 colors then link them.
The idea is to create a color resource for designers, to see what colors are "in", new, work well with other colors... a color inspiration place.

or
www.colorlovers.com for my American people
I only started tonight and it's going to take me some serious code writing to get this baby up, but take a look. let me know your thoughts.

Very cool concept!
I like the simple, monochromatic and elegant design of the site aswell! And since i always have troubles with selecting colours i am very curious for the results!
I can only be positive about this project.

It's a nice idea... but it would make more sense if they were color combinations instead of just swatches. you can buy those types of book for a good chunk of change but if you were to offer that type of service for free it'd be off the chain.

I thought that at first too, but I think added colors to the layout would just end up competing with all the color combinations showcased. Using all Black/White and greys he's created a totally nuetral backdrop for the showcase of colors ;)
JMHO.

There will be single color swatches, but also palettes of a few color combinations. I think that is what you are talking about.

Ryall is right. I felt like that the point of the site is to showcase colors. In order to feature the colors that have been added the layout would need to act simply as a canvas and not compete with any of the colors. Also as it is a rating site, it would make it a little biased to have colors in the layout that could be rated.
Brilliant. I love it.
Do you have an ETA?
I'd love to say a few days, but I have some other client work that needs t get done. As it goes with my little ideas like this though... I can never stay away for too long. I also have to travel next week, so hopefully by Jan. 1

You should have some kind of monitor adjustment section of your site so that everyone has the same viewing experience.
With all those different colors, it's going to be important that everyone is seeing them the same, or at least has the oppurtunity to.

Good idea, I'm on flat panels so I just accept that I'm not seing what other people see, and on top of that my colors are different depending on what screen i drag them to.

The site isn't done yet at all. All I've finished so far is the layout and section placeholders for Info and Cnotact... oh and I finished the registration / login scripts.

considering how vital colors and the use of colors are to those who design web sites, this is a really good idea ...

Max,
The idea is that colors are vital to anyone who is in the creative arts... web, print, interior, advertising, illustrating, painting, fashion...
Oh and I've updated the mock-up with an example of what the side nav will look like.
