6.Metal Gear Solid 1/2 - PSX/2 - Konami
5.Final Fantasy 7 - PSX - Squaresoft
4.Goldeneye - N64 - Rareware
3.Half-Life (and all MODS, particularly Counter-Strike, the mods really make the game.) - PC (and PS2, but that version blows) - Sierra
2.Diablo 2 (and LOD Expansion) - PC - Blizzard Entertainment
1.StarCraft (and BW Expansion) - PC - Blizzard Entertainment
Final Fantasy 7 may be the best RPG ever, and Metal Gear Solid series was amazing, but the ones above it in the list are there for their replayability.
I quit diablo 2, thank the lord, after many months of waking up early before school to get in those last couple Meph Runs, and staying up past midnight to help rush my buddy to Hell Cow level. Everyone knows that was the drug of all PC games.
I STILL play starcraft. Half-life was my First Person Shooter crack. I played that for a year straight.
Goldeneye. That was a gem. I played that for years, and years, and even now (once every like... 5 months) a friend or myself will suggest it, and we'll end up with an eight person round robin tourney of goldeneye. It's rediculous how good that game was.
Blizzard is the master of addiction, will be my final statement.
ALL of those games should be played, if you haven't played them.

Elder Scrolls III and Devil May Cry are fantastic games too. Play those. NOT devil may cry 2. ONLY Devil May Cry 1, no matter how bad the story, it IS better than the second.

Id just like to just add one more thing... I have never felt more joy, confusion nor pleasurable mental discomfort than I have in Touch Fuzzy, get dizzy in Yoshis Island. Trippy (litterally).
That game also had the BEST_VIDEOGAME_COMMERCIAL_EVER with a fat guy eating at a resturant and then exploding (representative of the scaling techniques used in the game).
good times!

I know how you feel about diablo 2 aislin. I played that game religiously for about 2 years. Its amazing the joy you can get when some monster drops a few bits of data that is unique or rare. Two summers ago I played at LEAST 12 hours per day. I got a druid up to level 89 in solo halls of the dead runs. It took forever. But now its better, only takes a few days to do that :).

Isnt it crazy - you get your list done, and then somone else posts something you wish you put on your list :)
I would like to add
Super Mario Kart-Super Nintendo (amazing)
and
All Tony Hawk Games!
Oh yah - and the fact that with all the New Generation of games out the majority of the Favorites are from days gone by, just shows you graphics arent everything!

February 23rd, 2003, 11:40 PM
I like first person shooters. As far as they are concerned, I'll always be in love with Quake III for it's online speed and smoothness. HalfLife is a better game, but not online. The best of the best first person shooters that I've played though was "Rogue Spear", a game that requires real thought and skill to get through.
I am however, video game challenged. I've not owned a gaming system since 89, and the PC hardly has the range of games for it that those systems do. So alas.. I must claim that I am not a good judge of these things and leave it to you guys who are much less ignorant in this area.

Final Fantasy VII.
Final Fantasy IX.
Final Fantasy VIII.
Final Fantasy... You get the idea? :)
In addition, I would also like to cite Xenogears, the Silent Hill series (which I soon discovered is best when not played after midnight when you're drunk) and UFO:Enemy Unknown which hooked me for hours.
Oh, and Secret of Mana.
And Weaponlord, on the SNES.

Nope, Silent Hill is much worse than Resident Evil. Resi relies on blood and guts and stuff to scare you, Silent Hill does it psychologiacally, which works on more levels...

I remember playing Silent Hill on the PSone with my girlfriend. She just likes to watch me play and help me with puzzles and such (I know, I know, I'm a lucky S.O.B.) and I dont remember ever being so scared, I mean - REALLY scared. The R.E. series is great and I own them all and of course they are all scary. They have that "oh no look out behind you!" or "CRASH! the window!" but Silent Hill has the "this is screwing with my mind!!!"
I will never forget hearing little kids talking and that creepy music! *shutters* Great game!

I“ve never played silent hill, but i“m gonna borrow from him...any advices? Yeah... Run. :)
Seriously, when you first get a gun, you're rubbish at aiming with it (because the character is a normal guy and not used to shooting) so shoot where you can, but if in doubt, run. It won't count against you. You'll get better, honest. Just takes practice (on his part).
Listen to your radio... If it starts crackling (a horrible noise when it's 2am and you're drunk) then you know something's around the corner and to beware.
Don't remember any of the puzzles being too difficult until a bit later on. Most of it is logical and fairly linear. Just keep your eyes open for anything.
It took me a while to complete it, but then you've got about five different endings depending on what you do in the game... :)

There are way to man ygreat games to list the best. If i had to choose one i think it would be athis game i had for my intelavision. It was a 2 player tank game. you just moved around and shot each other untill one person reached 20 hits. That or FF1 for NES. I wasted a ton of hours on that game. Kit loves every single game I love.. Silent Hill was a fantastic game.. Same with the second one.. helluva alot better than Resident Evil.. Final Fantasy Series is gold.. Even Mystic Quest and tactics... I still play the original Final Fantasy on my NES.. have the box and book and everything...
Then.. She said Xenogears and Secret of Mana.. I'm currently at Deus in Xenogears.. God.. That was one helluva storyline.. Don't you agree Kit?
Secret of Mana.. Stole my heart... Enough said.. hehe

Agreed... I went out and got every single Final Fantasy game that's available on the Playstation (would you believe I even went out and bought Ehrgeiz because it had FF7 characters in it? I did.). Both the Silent Hills... Cracking games. I like the psychological aspect. It does your head in, because your imagination thinks of worse things than the game actually throws at you. You make it worse for yourself. :)
Then.. She said Xenogears and Secret of Mana.. I'm currently at Deus in Xenogears.. God.. That was one helluva storyline.. Don't you agree Kit? It was truly unbelieveable... Since Xenogears isn't available in Europe (argh!) I had to go out, get my Playstation chipped, then import a copy from America just to play it...
Secret of Mana.. Stole my heart... Enough said.. hehe Absolutely... That was the first proper RPG I ever played, and I just got hooked on it. Plus you could play it as a two player thing, so I could get a mate round and play the thing for hours.
Hey kit, remember your first time in the... uh... non-normal... uh... *tries to say without spoiler*, the place where fence is floor... everywhere... Yeah, I remember that. I kind of termed it "The Dark Side", for want of a better explanation at that point. It was like, you were in the normal town at one point then all of a sudden you were in this really nasty place. Soon as you landed there all you could think of was what was out to get you... :cyclops:

Never before have I played games so involved. They're fantastic. The only thing that comes close is Secret Of Mana on the SNES, and that was by Squaresoft too. :)

my favorite FF is actually ff9, but i can pick up 7 anytime i want; story's great and gameplay is superb. i always found it to be one of the more depressing FFs, next to 6. it's probably the music and the twists in the game. plus Sephiroth's the best villain ever ;).
Kitiara
April 7th, 2003, 12:23 PM
Sephiroth was great for a villain, couldn't agree more. The only thing that annoyed me about 7 was the lousy translation they did on occasions.
I really enjoy 9 as well, it's more light hearted and funny that some of the others. 8 was a little strange compared to 7 though...
And I've thought of another game - Rainbow Islands on the Amiga. I played that for hours. And XCom UFO : Enemy Unknown...
thoriphes
April 7th, 2003, 01:11 PM
i barely even consider 8 to be a final fantasy since it was so tangential to the others. just because it had the name "Square" behind it, i played it. the music wasn't that bad, though, but the entire storyline needed to be changed.

Kjainku - Final fantasy is a series of RPG games.
I'm not an expert on them but in all of them you get a main character and some others. Each character has their own weapon and you can use magic and summon things to help you.

Then I come here and look at the amount of different games that everyone else likes and it's just crazy. Games that I havent even heard of are peoples favorites and that just makes me want to go out and find them and at least try them once. I mean if they are someone's favorite game they have to be pretty good...

i like to remember the old days of gaming - but every time i go back for more - the same games i used to love and worship dont actually feel that special no more - they are too easy, they are too predictable and mostly they are full of lots of bug (why did we put up with this). Apart from true classics that never die or age, most old games should just be fondly remembered, not replayed.......

Wow - I just played Zelda: Link to the Past again a few days ago, and I'm addicted to that game yet again. I'm almost done with the last castle in the dark world....again :)
I found out that Ether/Hammer is a great combination on any non-magic unit. Ether freezes them and Hammer shatters them leaving behind a magic potion almost all the time. A great way to beat the Ice kingdom and any other castle with a lot of units that need to be destroyed.
Cheers!

April 28th, 2003, 09:44 PM
Hehe yeah - I found that out a while ago - always great. You know the small rotating set of four stars that follow you and turn you into a bunny for a few seconds? Well, if you sprinkle magic dust on them while they are standing stationery, you get a fairy from them as well.
Also, instead of throwing bombs on conveyor belts and timing the explosions just right on the last tower, simply create a block using the Cane of Somaria (I think that's how it is spelled). Once the block has been created, throw it on the conveyor belt and press Y once the block has reached the orb. The block, as you may know, explodes into four fireballs that head off in all four directions - setting of the orbs that alternate the blue/red ground hindrances :)
Gah - the game is so fun that I am taking time away from homework to write about it hehe. There is just something about the game, the music, the colors, the story, the quest, and the people that is just so fascinating even 10 years after I first played it. So many fond memories associated with that game =)

This is always hard...
1) Yoshi's Island (SNES)
2) Secret of Mana (SNES)
3) Mario Kart (GBA or SNES)
4) Panel de Pon (SNES)
5) Robotron (Arcade)
6) Lemmings (Amiga or PC version)
7) Advance Wars (GBA)
8) Civilization series (PC)
9) Bishi Bashi Special (PS1)
10) Animal Crossing (GC)
I would like Street Fighter more if I was any good at it!
There are many more games I like loads, but these ones are particularly memorable.

Yoshi's Island is one I never tried, yet I have read in many different places that it's considered the best 2d platformer ever. I should really give it a try.

In addition to my choices on pages 2 and 3, I want to add Devil May Cry, Silent Hill 3 and Final Fantasy X. :) All three fantastic games, for various reasons. :)
I'm also going to have to get Final Fantasy X-2 when it comes out, because I'm Squaresoft's *****. :P

First off - you called it the "trashcube", not very nice. Second you said Metroid Prime "sucks", again not very nice and Third - you havent played Zelda Wind Waker... unforgivable.

I can't believe people take this kind of thing seriously...
people actually pay $60 to own a game that goes into a $200 machine that does nothing else? and don't give me the "it's a Cd/DVD player also" routine... a DVD player costs under $80... then if you want more memory, or a better controller...
and then they argue over which game is better...

Well rev, that's why i play games on pc. I spent the same money for my pc that you spent for yours to work on. Plus, since I would have a pc even if i didn't play games, I don't see it as wasting money.
Then think about the value of games. A good game can easily give you 100 hours of fun for $30-50. A movie gives you about 2 hours of fun for $5. So it seems like a very good value IMO.

I don't use my PC for gaming, simply because if I break it, I can't work. It's just too valuable to risk.
and I'm not surprised at the $$$ spent... it's the fact that people actually argue about this...
Personally, I buy older games, for an older system that work just fine, the graphics may be slightly chunkier than others, but they work just fine for me and my friends. If we spend a total of 2 hours a week playing video games, it is a week where there was absolutely nothing else to do...
real life social interaction is so much more fun than video games... IMO

hackable is fine for someone else. I realize xbox can do a lot of other things... it is, however, still a game machine, everything else it does is extra, and usually not up to specs of the machine that is designed for that...
;)
also, if I can't work, I can't make any money to buy games!
if my computer breaks, it is not a situation where I can just restore my work. If it breaks, I don't work. Chances are, if it breaks, it isn't simply a restore issue....
If it were that simple, then why don't you spend the extra bux to make your car 4 wheel drive and a rock climber. I mean you can use it to drive to work during the week, and if it breaks, all you have to do is fix it so you can get to work on Monday... right?

mario? pfff! I dont understand. Sega had a cool supersonic blue hedghog that kicked an evil doctors *** in each game. Nintendo had a short fat italian plumber who spent his time eating magic mushrooms. Please go read this ----> http://www.rahindeed.com/reviews/games/sonic.html

and yes, sonic is so much better than mario (character-wise :))

I'm thinking of buying one with a couple of games. They are so cheap now!
TheOrangeOne

it did get some attention, but the playstaion already had an established market. Before the days of 32 bit consoles, computer gaming was still pretty elite and considered for kids. Since the 32 bit "next generation" revolution consoles have found their ways into the living rooms and computer gaming is now considered a major part of the entertainment industry - some would say it is greater than movie making!.
Sony pushed the envelope and injected the home console into the home lifestyle market. They created games for more mature gamers and thus establshed their own market niche for quite some time. Consequently sony playstation is the most trusted brand as it is the one that most people are already familier with. (Ask your grandma about dreamcast and she wont have a clue, but mention playstion and she will know you mean!)
Because of this, the dreamcast flopped. People already trusted sony and didn't want to chance it on another console. Add to that the fact that PS2 was backwards compatible and thus alreaady had an established game base of well over 500 titles. The dreamcast was great, and i still play mine quite a lot, it just had know chance against the marketing might of sony.

Your work blocked Ebay? I wonder why... ;)
I don't know if the games are super duper:
The games are, Fur Fighters, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 1 & 2, Ready to Rumble Boxing, Sonic Adventure, Outrigger, Army Men Sarges Heros,Toy Commander, Sonic Shuffle,Saga Sports World Series Baseball 2K1, and Time Stalkers.
I'm not a big fan of the titles so far, except for the Sonic ones. Boxing? Ew. Skating? Yuk. Baseball? Pfff... boring.
It's a black DreamCast (Sega Sports). $100.

DC has been the best console IMHO it had the most innovative games and revolutionary graphics heck the best fighting game of all time is on the DC only SOUL CALIBUR everything else is just a game, they also introduced the virtual memory cards as well as internet gaming any1 here played Phantasy Star Online??? or any sports game?? heck it was awesome and a new experience to low end users that cannot buy a pc. All in all DC if not the best its was the most innovative console in history IMHO heck xbox just added a HD and took advantage of all the help they gave SEGA in the creation of the DC thus MS making the xbox.
And asphalt shadow dancer is one of the best shinobi games ever, the PS2 version of shinobi is great as well i suggest you check it ut if you havent, im looking forward to ninja gaiden on xbox if its as great as i hope it will be im gonna purchase a xbox just to play that game :beam:
