Hi!

I'm designing an album-cover for this band, so if you know of any greeeeat album-covers - please let me know! I need it for inspiration:) I'm kind of stuck...

Thanks,

(sorry if this is the wrong forum to post this thread)

you dont need to see what other albumn covers there are, you wanna get a feel for what the music is that you are making it for. if theye are a punk band put a punk feel on your image ect

also get ideas from the title of it.

and if you wanna take your road of design go to your local cd store, and check out the latest.

and i wanna see this cd cover when it is done !! :beam:

Yeah:) You got a point! Haha, "inspiration" often end up in copying:) I'm gonna make this my own design, since this is the first time i get paid a decent buck...

And i promise to post the final result in the showcase and critiques forum!

Thanks for your comment!

i disagree, a large part of designing something can be to look at other examples already out there. Obviously you don't want to copy someone else, but to get your ideas flowing and even just some concept of colours, styles, typography and stuff used in that particular area, looking at what's already out there can be great.

I found a trip to my local CD shop invaluable for when i was doing an album cover a few months ago, especially in regards to how big the type normally is, and good places to position it.

I agree with iLikePie. For 90% of designing I do I look at what's out there before I begin.

If I were you I'd just googe album art on google or search any of the thousands of online cd retailer sites.

Here's a nice one I found within seconds.

Thanks for your comments guys! Can I see the one you did ilikepie?

By the way, this is supposed to be a 100% vector drawn cover, at the bands request.

tell the band to suck and egg and let you do your job.

Check out some of the work by the clark brothers at www.asterikstudio.com

They have been making cd packaging for quite a while, their style differs from more traditional packaging, but it's still really nice work nonetheless.

I think the best covers are the ones that show a side of the band, for instance the front cover of London Calling from the Clash is a picture of the lead guitarist on stage smashing up his guitar.

This has been called one of the greatest album covers ever and I think it's because you see the emotion in the photo, the attitude of the band and before you play the album you already have an idea of what type of music you're about to hear.

The same can be said for Happy Mondays and their album "Pills, Thrills & Bellyaches" and their psychadelic (sp?) album covers. I don't need to tell you their music was new and the band members nuts, a psychadelic cover kinda tells ya already.

hope this helps :thumb:
