View Full Version : XBox Power Supply?

My XBox is seriously out to get me or something. Just a week before the release of Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, the power supply had to go and die. What gives?! Anywho, I need to replace it a.s.a.p., because I'm giving my sister PoP for her birthday December 2nd, and it's a pretty crappy gift if she can't play for another week or so until I fix it.

So does anyone have or know where I can get an XBox power supply compatible with one of the later versions of the XBox? I haven't checked to make sure exactly which one mine is yet, but I'm pretty sure it's either 1.5 or 1.6. And if you recommend an online store or something, if you'd mention whether or not you've used it successfully that'd be great as well. I don't want to end up sending money to someone with no power supply in return.

Oh! Another thing - anyone know how much it costs to actually take it in for repair? My warrantee's over, and I'd rather just fix it myself since I'm assuming it's more expensive, but if not, hey I'll just take it in somewhere.

Thanks a lot :)

Check the manufacturer's date on the back sticker on the box. If it's anything this year, you're most likely working with a 1.5-1.6

the version doesn't matter in this case with the power supply. you can probably get one off of ebay. i've seen various xboxen parts floating around in there. then next thing you gotta do is open the dammed thing. m$ didn't make it easy, either. instead of using philips-head screws like the normal/sane part of the world does, they had to go off and use torx screws (the ones with 6 notches) which require you, drumroll...a torx screwdriver which you usually can't find in your everyday toolset. now with that travesty out of the way, there are 6 screws so inconveniently placed under....you know what, here:

Yeah it turned out to be a 1.5, I just took it apart and looked at the parts to tell; couldn't be bothered by the serial number :P So I ended up buying from this site based out of Quebec: www.e-xtremz.com. I'm supposed to actually receive it in a few days (probably by Monday) so I'll let you guys know how that goes in case anyone else needs one. Ended up costing $62 CAD and get this - I found out it was because my little brother connected the XBox to 220V. :m: That's definitely coming out of his Christmas gift.

And actually I opened it up yesterday, luckily I actually have a set of Torx screwdrivers, as well as a screwdriver with a magnetic head (comes in useful when screws fall in the box). I didn't use a tutorial except for the part where I needed to find the version number - I got that from http://www.xbox-scene.com/versions_1.php if anyone else needs it. There's a different one for people who don't want to open their box yet, that one's over here: http://xbox-linux.sourceforge.net/docs/versionsfinding.html

well just hope your brother didn't blow out any of the internals of the xbox. microsoft products work bad enough when plugged in.

Yeah I'm crossing my fingers. If this doesn't work, he's buying me a new one. Plus a GameCube for all my trouble. :P
