I read some reviews that this app is not good for you, while some say it's all good, I read some reviews from peeps here on kirupa also that suggest tweak XP.. some peeps recommend xpsmoker.

I need a reliable app that allows me to tweak my xp.

my system:
P4 3.2 ghz Hyper Threading
Ram 1 gig Hyper X or something
Running on windows XP pro sp2.
I have set it up for the best performance [under mycomputer>advanced>performance setting]

I have Spybot installed, the latest Norton Internet Security, I have tweaked msconfig abit.

BUT STILL IT RUNS SO SLOWWWW!!! i remember the day I built this system.. it was so freaking fast.. but now..

ok Im sure there is no spyware, virus or something like that.

ideas?

thanks

note:
well compare to my notebook [p4 2.4 512mb], it's way faster, however i can feel it's getting slower.

maybe this should be moved to the computers forum?

I dunno about any programs, but I just did a fresh rebuild of my pc, and it is much, much faster than it was...Probably because I got rid of all the junk sitting around on it... :-/

Check what is running on startup. 9 times out of 10 that is the cause of system slowing. Look for the 2 Run keys in the registry and see what is automatically running.

you might just need to run a de-frag of your system, as times goes when you install and unistall apps, create, move and delete files and folders, your systems gets a little messy which makes it slow down, so sometimes when you run a de-frag you can get alot of hardrive space back and most of the time it makes your computer run like a fresh install.. thats almost a ad campaign..

"run a de-frag!.. it makes your computer run like a fresh install"

A computer with those specs, its more like you have installed too much applications and software. I wouldnt think its spyware/adware. Start deleting programs you dont need or junk files that are very unneccesary. TweakXP does the trick when it comes to tweaking but the only thing I use it for is the time-shutdown delay.

There's no reason why installing programs actually makes your computer run slower in any way. If your hard drive is fragmented (which could be caused by installing large programs and then removing them) then that might be the cause.

Does your CPU get really hot? The slowdowns could also be due to overheating.

Did you mean the process when installing them or the physical amount of software thats already installed on the HD? Its definitely a factor when you have too many programs installed already and you try to open serveral of them at once, but its not such a problem when you have 1GB of ram.

what soulty said - do the defrag and a scandisk -

and perhaps test your ram?

my computer recently was crapping out - after scouring it like I know how to for "malware" it was still acting freaky slow - turns out it was a bad ram chip - now it works beautifully.
