Ok ya'll - I'm searching as well - but the only way so far that seems to work is restoring to a point before I installed media player 10.

I want to go back to 9.

I've tried components, registry, and deleting and modifying .inf files.

Anyone finds anything - the help is appreciated.

i bought music online that will only run with media player 9 - this wasn't made known until afterwards and the songs wouldn't play.

media player 10 uses a different liscensing system than 9 - the tracks were encoded using 9's system.

so now i have music i can't play...unless I completely uninstall service pack 2...

or i guess take a cd to work and do it there - then extract the files at home - but quite frankly i should be able to do it here at home.

Can I uninstall Windows Media Player 10?

You can use either Add or Remove Programs or System Restore to roll back to the previous version of the Player that was part of your original version of Windows. To roll back from Windows Media Player 10 to a previous version using Add or Remove Programs, do the following:
1.
In Control Panel (Category View), click Add or Remove Programs.
2. Click Add or Remove Programs again, and then do one of the following:
o
If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 2, select the Show updates check box (at the top of the list), click Windows Media Player 10, and then click Change/Remove.
- or -
o
If you are running Windows XP Service Pack 1 or earlier, click Windows Media Player 10, and then click Change/Remove.

To roll back from Windows Media Player 10 to a previous version using System Restore, see the Use System Restore to Undo Changes if Problems Occur Web page.

You can also remove access to Windows Media Player by using the Set Program and Access Defaults feature. Note that this only removes links to the Player. It does not remove the Windows Media Player software. To remove access to Windows Media Player, do the following:
1.
In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
2.
Click the Set Program and Access Defaults button, and then choose a configuration (such as "Non-Microsoft" or "Custom").

thanks brich i saw that - but not what im after - i dont have a restore point for 10 and add/remove doesnt completely remove it - hence all that registry and .inf file stuff i was saying earlier - thanks for looking bro - i just want to know now for the sake of knowing and not spending an hour uninstalling and reinstalling crap.

ya I figured you would have saw that but thats all I came up with so I posted it. I wouldn't mind getting rid of it myself... I think that was pointless to have uncompatible codings for a new vers of media player? why might they do that?

nope - that was the first thing

spent 3 hours yesterday - down to editing the installation .inf packages - trying to trick and make custom installation files - the whole nine yards...

and well it's proving to be impossible unless you roll back or system restore
