Hardware problem

I have a CD-WR and a DVD drive but ever since I installed windows 2000, I cant use them (burn discs or play dvds). My computer came with windows xp and I dont want to go back because it runs much better without it. Ive tried installing burning programs and dvd playing programs but nothing works. Any suggestions?

check the drivers for the device - find the make and model and uninstall it from the control panel, then reinstall it using the drivers or better yet the installation cd that came with the drive - it sounds like your problem is that windows doesnt think its a burner.

Did you just install over XP or did you do it from a fresh format?
