Hey this sounds like a handy tool. I hope there are no privacy problems.

desktop search (http://desktop.google.com/)

Hmmm....

I don't think i like the idea of this. I also noticed that it says nothing about searching for mp3's or images. Why not just use windows search? What makes this thing better?

Ya I bet your right. It also puts google one step closer to owning the entire planet. Which I may or may not have a problem with. :beam:

yep, I didn't really get the concept too. I don't like using google for everything. I mean there getting too big for there own good. Bringing a wide range of good usefull webtools. but all under one name. And Yes, It will probally send information back to google to make you search results.. "better"

I hope I won't see targeted advertising in my folders :P I'm sure there may be some privacy issues with this (gmail like), but if I actually searched for files, I would consider downloading this.

EDIT: Just wondering, how is this different than a standard XP search with Fast Indexing enabled?

Sounds ridiculously intrusive, yet appealing. There is something so "wholesome" about google... but they are now a public monsterous corporate entity.... but their webpage is so simple and awesome!

/conflicted on the inside...

(on a side note, yes, I'm back from a long hiatus of vacations and lack of internet)

gmail storage, websearch, desktop search etc etc....

maybe they are creating our records...as in every bit of information we search they record it. information stored in the gmail accounts is available to them. sounds like privcay is being invaded here

How's it invading privacy if you have to choose to use it?

i've read somewhere that there's a big hole in the google desktop search. the desktop search indexes your files across all users on your PC, bypassing user protections. The google cache feature allows all users to browse the contents of messages and files it has indexed, it doesn't matter who is logged in, so as a regular user with strict privileges, you can find files that only admin's oughta see...
