Hi all,

I'm not sure if anyone has any experience with this, but I'll take a stab anyway.

I've rigged up a game model I've been working on. Every time I've rigged it I get this same anomoly with the forearm bone where it twists. I've come across it before, but always seem to be able to get around it. I've been doing this for a few hours now and can only seem to dampen the effect by adjusting the preferred angle for the forearm bone in the IK menu... I can't get rid of it, or get around it. In the animations you'll see what I mean... doesn't look very good.

I'd rather not resort to character studio as its only a very very simple rig.

If I have to create it again (Done it twice already) I will... assuming someone has a suggestion :D

Looks like I've solved it by changing the IK rig... well.. in a sense anyway. I'll have to make some more animation controls to align the elbow correctly, but it works ok now.

tip for other max users: HI IK solvers don't like moving on more that 1 axis when there are several used on the same bone heirarchy... it makes the bones 'spin'.

lol, have you tried rigging it with CAT?

it's really good, especially the blend seperate animations together  it makes CA easy :)

I wish I could afford it. Max's bones + IK are powerful, but difficult to master. Max has blended animations as well, although I've never made use of it.

I remember those renders you did a while back... it's a great bones system :) Looks much nicer than character studio. I grit my teeth every time I have to use it!

somewhat off topic: Ha! It's a destroyer! Nice work ;)

;) yeah, a destroyer. I tried not to give too much away in the animations... but for a warhammer 40k fan it would have been an easy guess. The game company I'm doing these for will probably want to keep the project mostly under wraps for the moment.

Should be good when its finished though ;)

yeah, I have plans to make a dreadnaught. No one can deny the *** kicking fury that they have.

We might eventually be modelling one of those... It'd be a fairly simple fun model to make I think. :)

I figure when I get really good I'll try and make a gaunt. Mmmm. Gaunt.

I wrote that tutorial a little while ago, I had the images hosted on my 1&1 account, which 1&1 were so nice as to lock without telling me why through email. B*stards. I still remember how I did it though :)
