Domain Registration and Web Hosting

So I've been doing some hunting around the interent to find cheap domain registration and have found a couple sites

1and1.com
dotster.com
etc

And then some cheap webhosting sites

deltawebhosting.com

Is it a good idea to buy a domain from one place and then have some other place host it. My client would like to keep it as cheap as possible because she doesn't have much money.

Can anyone lead me to a place where the hosting is cheap(er, than deltawebhosting) and allows for PHP coding?

Seems like the prices vary a lot from place to place. Is there a risk of buying from here and hosting from there?

PS What do you guys do? Like to keep the costs under 10 bucks for each, especially since we're talking canadian funds.

PPS There's another question, any places in canada that would give great service, for a good price, with PHP ability?

www.siteflip.com is what I use for hosting, and it is very cheap (less than a dollar a month). It is american though. But I have gotten really good service from them in the year and a half that I have been using them.

thanks yeldarb. i checked it out, very cheap, when it's that cheap I get a little ify on it. A year and a half is a good run. You even get PHP?

Buying a domain from one company and hosting with another is fine. Get your hosting first so that you know the Name Server's required before you buy the domain.

The cheaper the service is, the less likely you are to get good support/uptimes. This is NOT, however, always the case. If you host a domain with a dogdy company and they go under, they're likely to take the domain with them. I'd suggest buy the domain from the cheapest place you can and then re-deligate it to a good webhost.

If the site you're making is not likely to get a massive amount of traffic, consider hosting it yourself.

www.surpasshosting.com is the cheapest ever seen .... it has 2 GB for 5 bucks a month...and 20 GIG transfer, i think. Check the website for more details.

www.canaca.com canadian, reliable, CHEAP... it seems like a scam.. how much tehy give you for 3 bucks... but trust me they work.

domain is 10 bucks a year so it would total around 4.84 a month, pretty cheap... my friend has them, they are reliable... their ftp is a tiny bit slow though... not too bad
