yeah the biggest thing is getting the colors right... in different lighting the colors between 2 images is off enough to tell its a photoshop deal, so thats something to spend some time on tweaking

Eberth, you better start selling bottles and cans to save up for that $60 dollars because it's going to be really tough to combine those images and make it look authentic. I would love to see someone try though. =)

Remember I never said it wasn't possible, just really tough and time consuming. You're going to have to do some airbrushing, some color burns here and there, play with the lighting, oh man you're in deep sh*t now..... I would love to help, but I don't think I can pull it off. :-\

hey eberth...
your first attempt has a few problems, but it's on the right track. First, as people have said, you need to fix the differences in the lighting of the faces, and maybe even how that matches the backgrounds lighting.
The other main thing that's always obvious in photos is hair - those little strands that are such a pain to individually mask - but when you don't do it, the hair is too smooth and it's obviously wrong. That could take ages, but something has to be done with it...
if i have time, i'm gonna have a play with your photo's in about half an hour, but i think you should keep trying too... i hope we can fool your friend just to show how l33t our image skills are :chinaman:

Hey that's pretty good, but I think the lighting on his right side is just a little bit off, but that's still better than anything I would of done. Eberth, he saved your *****!! ahhaha =)

February 5th, 2003, 02:07 AM
yes yes....all these things are true but keep in mind he is a guy and his head might be a bit larger. So in my quest for perfection I tweaked the levels.
Enjoy!!

I still think theres too much contrast in his face :q:
the shadowing on the right is premo :)
iLikePie
February 5th, 2003, 06:37 AM
i dunno about that, i think the contrast is pretty much spot-on. If you look at the brightest parts of the left girl's face (on her nose and forehead) they are about the same as his brightest points. Same deal with the shadows.
if i didn't know better, i would really have thought it was a genuine photo... top stuff vroeg!!:beam: :A+:
guess i don't need to bother now :p

theres more of a gradual gradation in the girls face though, its softer. YOu get a pretty big jump from his dark to light. Hes also got a little too much highlight... the girls have only one hard hilite on ther noses, hes got some extra going on in his cheek and especailly the forehead. Its many indoor light sources vs one hard sun source.... actually his face could lose some red too.
I think the border of leftgirl and his shirt could use some shadowing too. Theres an obvious leftward light source and that area left of the w on his shirt would seem as though it should be shaded by leftgirls body. You can see how dark the original guys shirt is.
dr_vroeg
February 5th, 2003, 11:25 AM
Once again these things are all true but if you refer back to the original photo of him the light that was on his face was sunlight...I am not saying it can't be done, but it is awfully difficult to make a gradation on a face like that without looking contrived.
I may try again but until I get a response from Eberth I might actually work on other things.
Thanks anywho!:P

Well, here's the thing...
The photo's that you posted and I edited weren't done with a single photoshop filter or function. It was a collection of filters layers and effects to produce the end result...
Okay so since I am on a roll I will try and describe the method to which the guy in the photo.
Keep in mind this was completed in photoshop on a PC.
First of all you need to move yourself to the target photo...you'll notice that I did not put you in the background that you included, the reason for this is that it would look too staged and also all of that cutting and pasting would make it look terrible. Okay, so now you have a picture of you on the layer above the original photo. With the original photo layer selected, pick your lasso tool and set the feather to 1 or two pixels...I did this for your photo b/c the girls were slightly blurred and it made the transition between you and the girls softer...anyway, with the lasso tool selectedtrace around the area that you want yourself located...ie, between the two girls. Now, select the layer with you in it and then press ctrl+shft+i, this selects the inverse and then simply press delete.
Okay now that you are where you should be...you need to match the colors and hues of your face to the girls. A very simple way is to Edit>Adjust>Hue Saturation. By sliding the hue you will attain the proper color, by sliding the saturation you will change how much color is actually visible. Use your own eye and match them as best possible. Now that the colors match you need to do something about the high contrast of your face...you are supposed to be indoors and according to the photo you are obviously experiencing much more light then your female counterparts. Under Edit>Adjust>Brightness Contrast change the contrast just a little bit so that the highlights in you face are brought down a touch. There are other things you can do including burning in shadows...messing with the levels found in the Adjust menu and also changing the curves in the same menu...
There are many more steps into completing the image how you want it completed but everyone has their own way...Hopefully you got this far and the rest I will leave up to you...
Enjoy!!:cowboy:

you know, the think I hate most about flash is that you always learn something new...this is why I never stop making personal websites because, quite frankly, I never like the one I complete after I discover something new....

I know exactly what you mean... I have been trying to create a Flash version of my site for some time now. By the time I get halfway through my site I think of something else and I start to dislike the one I am working on so I scrap it. It is a pain.
