View Full Version : Which Splash?

Here are three splash pages I made for my site Urban Echo Design using Photoshop.
The first is the quickest loading but the simplest and the third one is the slowest loading but the fanciest. The third is not shown at full quality as it is too big a file. Tell me which one I should use.

Edit- woo! hundredth post!

I like the first one too but it might be a little too simple.

Thanx man. Yeah #2 is pretty cool. Looks like some kinda fiery explosion. It actually rminds me of the podracing scene in Star Wars The Phantom Menace.

I'd have to say 2 as well, with 1 being a close second...yeah, maybe a poll wouldn't be a bad idea...help you tally votes quicker.

Number 1.
Number two looks like a deal I made back in the Geocities days that I put in for a Medal of Honor website. Not saying it's bad(not at all), just sayin that's what it reminds me of.

Presumably this website was loosely based on MOH. I might make a few more splashes and see what else I can come up with. Watch this space.

Did you make those?
If so, those are awesome.
First one.

if u have a logo use it on number 1 with some kind of contrast between them
paddy.
July 11th, 2004, 11:19 AM
Thanks topcatyo. Yeah I made them all. I updated the vote counting post. (See above)
Here's another one I made which is pretty different from the first three. I like it but I'm not sure it's as good as the others.

4 looks really good.
A tie between 1 and this 4 (as I'm labeling it).
What programs did you use?
paddy.
July 11th, 2004, 11:55 AM
Just Photoshop 7.0. I did a lot of mucking about with tutorials to create these.

Hm..Touch choice..I really like four, but its just a tad too simple. Perhaps add a bit to it. I also really like the third one. It's real groovy. Lol. But 4 really has potential.

How about this Handler4me:
Amalgamation of 1 and 4.

maybe stick the tentacles in bottom left corner nice idea tho !
paddy.
July 11th, 2004, 12:56 PM
Beddoes// They look weird in the bottom left corner.
You know what's funny? These splash pages are getting less and less like my site, and as they do, they get better and better.

1 or 4. #3 looks tacky.
paddy.
July 11th, 2004, 06:48 PM
Why you little...! I'll tacky you! (J/k)
What about #5? The last one. I think it's a huge improvement on #4.

<twocents> how about using all 3 and having them load randomly every time the user visits </twocents>

July 12th, 2004, 04:44 PM
I think that all of them look kinda odd to be a splash page. Anywho, I would say 1 because IT IS simple, and it's cleaner. I defenately wouldn't go w/ tentacles as that specific technique is old, and played.

Well I would definitely wouldnt suggest making a splash page that doesnt fit the style of your website. I'd think that people would vote much differently if we could see your site as well as the splash pages. I mean the splashes alone are cool but if i clicked on, say, #1 to enter your page, and the site didnt have any black and blue, id feel like i was at the wrong site.

The one you just posted is by far the best. However, you should find an alternative to the dashes in it

I'm gonna make a new one based heavily on the site design. Expect to see something soon. The site colours are pretty similar to what's in my footer.
[I accept no responsibility for confusion if I change my footer.]

Here is a splash that follows the theme of the actual site exactly. It even uses the same background image.

It turns out that the blue in the footer is too blue.

Looks like just photoshop to me. It's basically just colored and edited clouds with radial zoom blur's right? Nice stuff though. I'd probobly have to go with 4. :D
EDIT: Actually, the new one is money. I dig man. Hopefully you can put some flash magic into it! :D

You can do it with flash, java, php, whatever you prefer. Just run a search on google for "loading random images". As always, there are a few tuts right here on kirupa to help you out.

paddy.
July 15th, 2004, 02:07 PM
I'm going with #6.
Dsico-Stu// It's a splash page that anyone has to be able to see. If I use flash on it then the System Requirement: Flash Player 6 + is a bit pointless as they'll already have if they can see it.
