Spam lasagne? might be edible, but I'd dice the Spam and brown it well first. Same goes for Spam pizza. :P

some people just don't get that SPAM can be a good thing...

not that I eat it anymore, but I was raised on grilled SPAM and sliced American cheese (in the seran wrap) sandwiches (throw on a tomato from the garden)...

I substitute sliced Tillamook cheddar for the American cheese and when they're in season I add a nice slice of Walla Walla or Vidalia onion, and season with a couple of shakes of Tony's. :beam:

To the problem with vegitarian lasagna...

I think it's eggplant.

Eggplant to me has always tasted the way fresh dark dirt smells. Old an earthy. Does anyone else feel this way about eggplant?

abzoid??? You're 43?

Sorry you didn't get the official old foggies welcome. There are only a small manority of us here at kirupa who are over 30, so I like to offer a special welcome to those who are, and offer instant membership into the Kirupa Old Farts Foundation, or KOFF for short.
We'd hold weekly meetings but between the physical therapy and basket weaving most of us forget to attend.

(yeah, I know I'm young to you at 32, but hey, I had to make the marker somewhere. Most of these kids are teens so I figure 30 and above as 'overTheHill' is probebly pretty reasonable. :) )

I have tried eggplant in almost every way possible...

I think someone lost a bet, and had to eat one once... then he was just too stubborn to admit it tasted like a bad mushroom that sat in the crisper too long...

hi David,

Yup, I was born during the Eisenhower administration. My Comp Sci degree dates 10 years prior to the creation of the World Wide Web. I'm honored to be a new member of such an exclusive group as KOFF.

As for eggplant, it tastes like whatever you cook with it. It's essentially a just a sponge for sauce. I enjoy a well made eggplant parmigiana, but it's only as good as the ingredirents. Quality basalmic vinegar, fresh garlic, fresh mozzarella, Reggiano Parmesan, and a hardy tomato sauce.

Same could be said about fruit cake. :P

At least fruitcake gets soaked in rum before it is given away as food...

Who in the world walks along, sees a purple alien looking vegetable, and says, hmmmmm, I wonder what this tastes like?

Then actually try it again...

people eat haggis too...

:P

david: you´re right too. alone, eggplant, taste like moistered dirt.

Hey rev: don´t you think that fruit cakes and liquored candies are the best way to turn inocent children in alcoholic adults? ;)

Look, I'm getting worried enough about hitting the quarter century this year. Don't even talk to me about thirty. :sure:

And what is this 'eggplant' you're talking about? Is this an American thing that I've never heard of?

Guigo, Tudo bem! :)

Sorry, I did miss your prior question. Thanks for the kind welcome. I've never had eggplant pickles, sounds interesting and the stuffed eggplant sounds good. I'll try just about anything at least once, and I have the waistline to prove it. ;)

Those "da Bears" skits on SNL were some of their best work, funny funny stuff. The beaver logo in my footer is from my Alma Mater, Oregon State Univ.

Yes I do think it is the best way to breed alcoholics (as if drinking at an early age can predipose you to addiction)...

I personally am in favor of giving the little crap machines a Alice B. Toklas brownie, just to shut them up, and mellow them out...

then again, I am for tying them up in a corner, then feeding them jello shots with a sling shot...

I learned a little bit of Portuguese (most of it not repeatable in mixed company) at the same time Rev did, from an exchange student from Rio that lived with us for a year. Rev is my brother. ;)
