Okay I finally FINALLY got permission to use Firefox at work (hooray! ) but I keep getting this error message "Operation timed out" something something when I'm cruising around the web. And it happens like 3 secs after I press a button, so it's not sitting there waiting to find a website and timing out, it's timing out immediately.

Now granted I downloaded the newest version - the 0.9RC - so maybe I should first ask if anyone else has had this problem? Should I instead download an older more stable version? It's not a biggie - I'd rather live with it than go back to IE which crashed every 20 secs and caused me to lose countless posts in this forum and lots of precious time I should have been working, but I was just curious.

Thanks!

Is there some kind of setting I should play with?

you know what lunatic - I have had the same problem, but it's not all the time. Sometimes it happens, most times it doesnt. As soon as I press enter again though - the page loads right away.

Very strange, let me know if you find anything ok?

It's never happened to me before...Maybe it has somthing to do with the platform you are running?

The only times I've ever gotten that message were when my internet connection spontaneously died. I usually wait a few seconds and try again.

Are you running through some sort of Proxy server or firewall? That could be the problem. It works ok with the proxy here, but I did have to configure it to do so.

Cheers!

Yeah, I'm gonna guess that we are running behind at least a firewall. I didn't think about that. Is it easy to configure? I probably shouldn't mess with anything as I'm just a grunt/drone in a big operation.

Guess I'll have to live with it. :( Still beats IE! :D

Hmm.. I'd take a guess at a proxy issue.

Try http://mozillazine.org/ 's forum. It's quite good :)

If the site takes to long to load that happens.

:P I spent some time on the Firefox forums but there were like 299 pages so I tried to do a search and got this message that said the forums were overloaded with users and had I made a donation recently? :run:

I don't think that's the issue here - it happens for example when I am reading a thread here and click on "New Posts".
