Its a cool concept, obviously you're fairly new to design so I'll give you a few pointers.

What you wan't to do when designing something like this (a TV set) is give it realism. As it is, its very flat and 2D. This is what gives it the amatuer feel.

What you might wan't to do in the future is pickup Photoshop do your interface work there and then import graphics into Flash, thus animating and scripting it all in Flash with some strong graphics that have depth.

Capiche?

:) Hope this was helpful, it's very late and I'm pulling an all-nighter with this work here so I figured I'd toss in a critique or two.

so here i am trying to learn it...
anyways.. the tv was suppose to look kind of fake but not the way i got it.. its hard to explain.. i wanted it to look kinda real.. but still to the effect of i hand drew it with paint

well, if you dont mind me saying...

don't focus on Fireworks. Even so you can't afford Photoshop, doesn't mean you can't download a trial version and toy around with it.

My suggestion is to save up 150$ for a student version (its actually a FULL version) of Photoshop CS from JourneyEd.com

Then learn it. Photoshop is the industry standard. I dunno if you plan on doing design for a living but it'll definately be a major plus to have Photoshop knowledge under your belt. I'd safely say 9 out of 10 employers in the industry ask if you know Photoshop during an interview.

Either way, keep at it. Practice, Practice, Practice :)

not that my opinion matters as much as joe's (;)) but he's totally right, i'm still learning things on this whole ps thing on a daily basis, all you have to do is practice my man, practice makes perfect :)

Hmm... I know that you told 56k users to turn away, but I still would have liked to see a preloader. I wasn't sure if it was loading anything or not... after 20 secs of staring at "Turning on..." I went back to browsing Kirupa and checked later if something had actually happened.

Usually, if I'm just surfing around and I come accross a Flash site that has no preloader, I don't really bother to wait and see what comes up...if anything.

Otherwise, I like the idea of tv set as a homepage :thumb:

(but...I also agree with what said above
...except what was said about Fireworks. I make nearly 100% of my web graphics with it, and I love it :) )

yea i was told fireworks was the same as photoshop and if you knew one you knew the other....

as for the preloader i couldnt figure out how to make one in just one frame (the loading page was thrown in at last second and its only one frame of the movie

Make the preloader inside a movie clip and place the preloader mc on the first frame.

Inside of the preloader mc use something like

if (_root.getBytesLoaded >= _root.getBytesTotal)) {
_root.gotoAndPlay(2);
}

Make the preloader mc loop for two frames.
In the main time line, on the first frame where you have the mc, put stop();

That ought to work...

More detailed instructions are sure to be found at these forums.

About the photoshop / fireworks...
Here's a thread about it I read a while ago:

I'm no expert at this web design either, but if you just say, "if you don't have flash go get it", they'll think why should I bother. Hook up at least a basic url to take them to the macromedia site and get the free flash/shockwave player. A simpe pre-loader would help greatly, I just stared at the screen waiting for something to happen. If you got a percent sign or at least a bar moving, it will build anticipation.

I agree with everyone on PS so I won't beat a dead horse...Keep up you work though, good start.
