I just started playing around with flash a while ago - I'd like to hear some comments about my site, especially about my photo album (under stuff). I'm currently using the loadMovie method to load the jpegs dynamically. I want to figure out how to preload the next image though, so that there's no flicker... if anyone could show me how to do that, that'd be awesome..

I'll be posting the source for the album when I get home.

I went through some of it. Um...
The music seems to start and stop randomly. Some of the fonts are so small I can't read them. You have the pictures loading pretty fast....I don't think I would say that it ia bad at all...I do think it could be better

You have a nice concept and a simple layout, but you need to manage your text a little more better. What you have now is a mess in my opinion, text scattered everywhere which makes it look unprofessional. I don't like how your navbar looks different and shifts from top to bottom between the home section and the other sections. I think the navigation should remain the same through out the rest of the site. I also dont like how your splash screen is black and then you go to a white dominant layout so you have some consitency problem there.

I can see that you have a personal theme to your site which is good, but I think overall it could use more work, good start though. =)

Come on MIT! you can put it together better than that. The site is ok but it has a poor format. Your layout leaves much to be desired.

hey man... I just started learning this stuff.. hehe. I'm working on a full flash site now. I just have a question though... I want to keep the main pages html, but I want to keep the top nav bar (I'm going to convert it completely to flash, now that I know a little bit more than I did when I made it) present. Can that be done without using frames?

yeah you can use tables instead, just have your top table row hold your navbar which will be flash and the lower table rows will hold your content. Of course this method will mean that every time a page is loaded, your navbar will be reloaded at the top like how the kirupa main site is set up. Kirupa's nav bar is flash, but the content is html.

yeah, I didn't want to do a table, since I dont want the music to stop. I guess I'll just have to make the whole thing flash. I have a question - can you embed HTML into a flash movie? like if I had an HTML file, and I called it dynamically from the movie.

And I have another question - I downloaded a font for Flash, from one of those sites that makes fonts specifically for flash, and it shows up fine on my computer, but I tried it at work and it gave me a crappy blurry font - something like times new... I thought Flash was supposed to embed the font when it exported the movie... any thoughts? Can you guys see the text clearly?
thanks

1) Flash isn't capable of embeding HTML documents, the only thing it can bring in is text files with HTML tags for bold, italics, size, etc...

2) When you're embeding a font into flash, it's only creating an outline of the font which depending on the font will probably make it look even worse. If you got a font from FFF then there should be intructions on how to use the fonts on their site. You can do a search here in this section of the forum for "fonts", many people have asked about fonts.
