I don’t remember there being a Ken in the first one (Street Fighter) ????
I couldn’t get dragon punch out on that machine anyway. :(

Street Fighter II came out and everyone was all over it.

People use to line up for a challenge…..
I used to play like a retard, people would watch, think they could win and then challenge. :D (almost got into plenty of real street fights doing that :P)

Then Mortal combat came out… ( I never liked that )

There was:
Street Fighter II
Street Fighter II turbo
Street Fighter II hyper
Street Fighter II Alpha
Street Fighter II Alpha 2
Street Fighter II EX
Street Fighter II EX 2

There were others in there, like the Marvel one, There were pirate ones where you could do infinite fire balls and sonic booms and climb up the screen. I believe there is a III out, but I don't remember ever playing it.

Sometimes when me and my friend would turn up to different machines they would say the Master / Masters are here.

We were so cocky, one used to use the stick, while the other pressed the buttons. Or we would play looking away from the screen just listening to the sound to show off.

I still do that, I watch music video clips at the arcade while playing Street Fighter II EX 2, but not to show off, but because I get bored……

When I want to shame people who think they are good, I will let them beat me almost to death and then start playing, let them have second round, or beat them perfect in seconds.

Hell….. I have even taught my g/f to play…….. If you wanna see shame, you should see the looks on their faces when they are beaten by a girl. Even I laugh my arse off when she pulls out a tornado on them in EX2. :D

i used to have 20 minute fights or more with my best friend in MVSC2 which is the best of the series IMHO its fast paced and combos are friggin awesome i love that game the most i was looking forward for the new version marvel all stars i think it was called but it was going to be more like a rival schools type of game which isnt bad but i personally think street fighter games are best in 2d, nonetheless its always great to take out the DC and play my custom hacekd version of marvel vs capcom2 with custom music tracks :thumb:

i heard that anniversary game aint nothing special. What i would really like is to see a nice version of Street Fighter II Alpha 2 to hit the ps2, all the other version suck, cause they use old sprites from the ps1 game and just looks dodgy.

I personally love this version of the game, the more cartoony look,it's awesome stuff, i hate the 3d version "ex".

oh well as long as ps1 is still operating i play it on that. :sigh:

My all time favorites would have to Marvel vs. Capcom, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, and Street Fighter Alpha 3. I got hooked on SF back in the SNES days with SF2: The New Challengers.

I think Ryu, Ken, or Akuma are the best characters in the game also. I got used to almost all of their moves, and the dragon punch is one of the most effective offensive moves in the game :D

The ones I have played are:

Street Fighter II: The New Challengers
Street Fighter: Alpha
Street Fighter: Alpha 2
Street Fighter: Alpha 3
Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter
Marvel vs. Capcom

I think of all the characters in the game, Chun Li is probably the most difficult to beat when the comp plays her. Gah!

Chun Li is probably the most difficult to beat when the comp plays her
Yeah she can be a real pain sometimes……
When I was learning at my local video shop there was this Indian guy who use to whip my butt, he was always Dalsim. :)
I used to waste $20 a day trying to beat him, this was when $1 got you 2 or 3 credits.
I eventually gave up on Guile and Ken and used Chun Li to beat him. With her I learned to air-chuck like you wouldn’t believe. I guess since I learned her in’s and out’s she has never bothered me.

I would have to say that my Arch rival is Sagot….

Ryu, Ken, or Akuma are the best characters
I never liked Akuma to many gimmick moves for me, and I prefer Kens longer legs over Ryu.

Actually kirupa, Street Fighter: Alpha 3 was the one i had one my ps1. (its the one where you can pick two different characters) :thumb:

My favourite player is Ken, always been my fav.
My enemy: sagot as well... in the early versions of street fighter he use to tiger.. tiger..tiger till the cows came home. it ended being a fireball contest. hehe.

no idea if that anniversay is out in australia vulcan.

When playing SF3 I usually go with Ryu/Ken or Akuma/Ken combo :) I used to hate Sagat in the earlier SF's, but with Alpha, his moves are easily counterable. You can jump and low punch, and his uppercut has no real effect on you. When the comp plays him, it often shoots the fireball - leaving him open for you to high kick, low punch, and then dragon punch or trip him.

I just realized that Adon has to be one of the tougher peeps to beat also. His ridiculous kicks are almost unstoppable. No low punches/kicks can counter his moves. He reminds me of Ryu/Ken/Sagat's uppercuts in the originals hehe.

Any 2D fighter where I can select more than one player is always good. That's why I like the three I mentioned earlier. X-Men vs. SF is also pretty good, but I didn't like the gameplay nor the limited character selections.

Darkstalkers (Vampire Savior, Vampior Savior 2) are also one of my favorites along with Street Fighter. Nothing like using the Sasquatch or Morrigan or even the Robot.

I bought Marvel Superheros vs SF last fall or so for like 3 bucks used... it's such a cool game! I had never really been into SF (we have no arcades here or anything) but I find this game super amusing... especially Wolverines talking!

Let's take my car for a ride! hehe Took forever to figure out what he was saying...

since we're talking about past 2D fighters, I'm wondering if any of you played "Eternal Champions" on the Sega Genesis and the updated version for the Sega 32x? It was a great game, I think it came straight to the console, which is kinda surprising considering it was made by Sega...

I think last year some guy who knows me at intensity here in Adelaide told me that he was trying to get SFIII from Queensland in. But the boss wasn’t interested.

There was a new SF machine…. Well not new, I am talking years ago now, but it had no Guile… It had all these new characters; one of them was some guy with like one arm and one leg or something.

Garuda is a cool character to use….. He has more moves than anyone… If used properly he would probably be far more stronger than Guile, Ken and Ryu. I never mastered him though.
I can use any charter and still win just about. Only when I am up against a master will I loose if I pick some dumb player, although I will still give them a run for their money.

I have played other people who were good with Guile and Chun-li, everyone uses Ken and Ryu…. But I am the only one that ever mastered Blanka…

Though in the original SFII when I mastered Blanka he was weak. Getting hit during a rolling attack would waste half his energy. 2 hits like that and he’s dead. Not even Zangif’s screw poll driver took that much energy.

I played SF Alpha’s for a while…… Me and my friend would go to a arcade near a private school and all these Chinese kids would challenge. They all thought they were so good till we turned up. They had a key to open the machine so they had free credits… The best score we had was 40 – 0 but we use to loose on purpose because it gets boring using the same character after 10-20 matches.
Some were dam good though….. But they were always wanting to do their gay combs and reverse attacks…. So we would play it old school and as soon as they couldn’t do their pretty movies they had no substance….

I would have spent so much money on street fighter over the last 15 years I could have bought my own machine. :(

One thing I liked about the original SFII machine was you could freeze the machine with Guile. If someone was being a cat and pissing me off, I would just freeze the machine and walk away…. That too almost started a few fights once people knew that you did it on purpose. There was a way to unfreeze it but it would only work like 1 in 100 tries…. :D

howd u freeze the system with guile?

The_Vulcan
May 12th, 2004, 04:52 AM
hmmmmm its been 2-3 years since I have done it...

I think it was you

pull back
press heavy kick

then when he turns upside down and does his kick

you do somersault kick (but)

u have to run your fingers down over medium punch and medium kick while pushing up.

This has to be done while he is upside down…………

He will have this stance on one leg…….

To unfreeze… you wiggle a sonic boom, and then another immediately using heavy punch and kick at the same time. > < > < (HP HK)

There is timing to it….. It’s hard to undo…. You end up turning off the machine…

(it only works on the original SFII as far as I know)

While you are paused the other player can jump around and stuff but they can’t hit you.
When you unpause it looks like he is throwing someone with medium punch but he isn’t holding anything. :)
