Where'd all the files go?

Well, I recently started using firefox, and lvoe it save a few things. One of those thigns is I can't figure out where my temp interenet files went! Sometimes they are in the temp internet files folder, sometimes they are not. Sometimes I want to save an swf on my comp, but I do it that way. So:
a)can you tell me if FF is putting it somewhere else?
b) can you tell me of an alternate way to save an swf? maybe I'm too dense :P

It's somewhere in Documents and Settings under Windoze... try Application Data.

this is where I normally go to get them:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files

now there are sometimes files there, usually not... is that the place you were talking about?

In Mozilla it sys under the Cache section in Edit Preferences. You can change it there as well. I don't know if this also applies to FF, but it's worth a shot.

In FF all I can find is:
tools>options, and under privacy where it shows how to clear all the cache for each of the componants (hist, etc) it doesn't include a section for changing location of temp files. :( thanks though...

Okay did some more searching, on the mozilla.org page I found this:

To specify in which folder the cache is stored, add the following code to your user.js file:

// Path to Cache folder:
user_pref("browser.cache.disk.parent_directory","C:\\Path To Cache");
I created the user.js file as it directed, and made my new cache folder a temp folder on my desktop for easy access. Used double \\ as it directed. It placed a folder in the folder called cache. But upon viewing that folder, I see nothing but a few strange files with odd names, and no extensions! so... Where'd all the files go? Any ideas? I realllly wanna get to my files here, and am seriously tired of IE... it is now a burden to use it... I can't believe I went so long with FF!

Okay! made some more progress, for anyone else interested...
to viiew the cache through ff browser, type:
about:cache
this allows you to view info about where cache is stored and how much is allocated.
click the disk cache usage 'view cache entried' link, or type:
about:cache?device=disk
to retrieve a listing of the cache files. Here's where it gets pretty bad. If you have a lot of stored cache, it may take a while to find what you are looking for as it is all linked files and not alphabetical and not even by format! I knew, however, that I wanted some sbemails, so I simply brought up find (ctrl+f) and typed 'homestarrunner' and found what I needed. Opened the files, and then went to file>save page as. It will save just the file, as that is all you opened! whew! A lot of work for some cheesy flash files! Anyone else have better ideas, I need em!
