whenever i go on the internet, a couple minutes in i get an error saying the computer will shutdown in one minute.

i ran adaware, deleted internet files, cleared history, deleted cookies, and ran some weird internet cleaner thing. Nothing worked.

actually, my mom got it twice. *(she was on realtor.com for a few minutes when it happened)*

any suggestions?

i have all my virus definitions updated for nortan

BLASTER WORM!
Dude...
when you see the message, goto Start -> Run -> type: "shutdown -a"
Then goto symantec.com, and download FixBlast.exe
Run it.
Download any Windows Updates you can find,
run it again.

okay, the shutdown -a worked, but the blaster fixer didnt. But i didnt disable system restore, mostly because i couldnt disable system restore cuz i couldnt open windows explorer (a lot of times i cant open my documents when im dling stuff or sometimes when im just on the internet)

ill try to get this to work.

thanks

thanks, it turned out i didnt have the blaster worm, just something that the microsoft patch handled

my nortan subscription ran out the other day, 5 seconds later i got the weird comp shutting down thing. I got rid of that, then i got this new worm that symantec just got a removal tool for the day before yesterday

got rid of that tooo

weird part was i got it when i just started to install a firewall

I have to agree. Thanks to Vash for doing the spec work for us.

The very best anti-virus software out there, from the stats I've seen anyway.

Man... now I wish my wife hadn't paid for a year of Norton... :P
Well, I guess I'll have to try it out when the year is up... :(

AVG has a free version...

sure it would be a waste of Norton, but if it doesn't get all the viruses, then it really isn't worth much anyway, IMO.

Kinda like a fishing net with a hole in it. You may catch a few fish, but at least one is going to get away.

well i can use nortan, i just cant get updates. So if theres a new virus, and nortan can fix it, i cant get the update to fix it.

ill just keep them both.

ill try to install my firewall again, hopefully this time i wont get a worm in the process

personally, I wouldn't have two AV progs installed at the same time.

They can fight, and cause all kinds of lock ups, etc.

just my .02
