Well, I like the Dragonlance books (obviously) and sci-fi / fantasy in general. Terry Pratchett and Robert Rankin are two of my favourite authors. Robert Jordan too, although his tend o be a bit heavy going at times. I also like reading things by Douglas Coupland, who's a Generation X type author. Ben Elton makes me laugh... And if I just see something that looks interesting, I will read it.

What about "March of the dead" (or someting like that) by Dennis Jürgensen?
I've read that book 3-4 times by now...

Ahhh.. book talk.
thanks guys. I was looking for a thread.. ANY thread that I could reply to. Feeling hermetic these days.
I've only played the DL modules for AD&D, but I remember the character. It's a small world that leads you to that alias, Kitiara.
I'm reading about the Sword Coast and Dritz. "Silent Blades". It's so so. I hear this author is suposed to be pretty popular, but I've yet to see anything ingenius yet.
If people are looking for some good fantasy, I'm reading a very good set now. "Song of Fire and Ice" by George R.R. Martin. Started with "A game of thrones". Personaly I think he's what I've always looked for in a fantasy author, but lost since the death of Zelazny, and the end of the Amber series.
Tonight I'm re-reading "lies my teacher told me" though as I just found it again and have to refresh my brain.

David - the Sword Coast type books, are they by a guy called R A Salvatore? If they are then I've got the whole lot of them, and they're good. I think they get better as they go along.
The Dragonlance ones I got into by accident really. I was getting a long train home from University, and I didn't have a book with me. Went into Smiths in the station and picked up what turned out to be part one of Chronicles. Read that on the journey and got hooked. :)
Nope, I've never played Ravenloft, or even read that series to be honest...

I used to DM Ravenloft. =)

Yup.. those are the ones. Detailing Dritzz's character.
I guess it was ok. I'm hypercritical though. I've read a lot of good authors and they have spoiled me. :)

I quite enjoyed them. I thought the author was quite brave in doing one of the things he did to a main character in the earlier books (not going to spoil that bit too much if you haven't read that).
It's not Tolkein kind of level, but he's improved with each book... I've always reckoned that the test of a good book is whether you can go back to it after a while and read it again. I have done. :)

I do have a genuine interest in reading the Dark Elf trilliogy. At least for now, the guy is being given a chance. He's one of the Forgotten Realms most productive writers.
and I'm not saying it's bad.. just that I haven't seen anything marvelous out of him yet.
As for doing brave things to good characters. In Song of Fire and Ice, we've already seen one major character Cripled for life, and a second beheaded in front of his two preteen daughters, just by the end of book one. It was absolutely heart wrenching. :) I love that stuff.

Oh yeah - the best bits are always when they do something nasty to the main characters.
It was like Final Fantasy VII, when they killed off Aeris. Games almost never kill off a main character, so you didn't expect it and it threw you. If a book does something similar then I'm pleased - it's like "no-one's safe".
and I'm not saying it's bad.. just that I haven't seen anything marvelous out of him yet. True - they're good books, and I have a lot of time for them, but Lord Of The Rings they ain't. :)

sorry for leaving you guys alone, puter trouble...
but it seems that you managed to start a good chat.
david, afterreading your posts, i´ll surely gonna read that song of fire and ice book. that is the kind of book i like. i never read any rpg-based book, like these DL books kit loved to read, and i´m starting to.
i´m more in to writers like Tolkien, Zahn, Rice, Lovecraft...
in that order. i have preety much all tolkiens books, with few exeptions, and i´m marvelled by his style as much as i am by his tales.
i´m reading now james lowder´s Knight of the Black Rose, a Ravenloft book, during my launch time and H.P. Lovecraft´s Call of Cthulhu and other writings at night.
i´m browsing for books right now, read all i got twice.
do you guys have any sugestion? i really apreciate.

Sorry, my dodgy English there. :)
What I mean is that Lord Of The Rings is an absolute classic book and, whilst the ones by R A Salvatore are good, they're nowhere near as good as LotR. :stunned:

Terry Pratchett and Robert Rankin are two of my favourite authors.
I'll second that motion. Still got a couple of Robert Rankin's from Xmas to finish when I get some time.
