Im wondering if its possible to export a Maya-animation (a little movie-scene) to a Flash-format of any kind?

Thanks

well depending on how complex the animation is, maya 5 can export straight to a swf file with its vector renderer. There are also plugins you can get for swf output for maya 4 and 4.5.

if the animation is too complex , it would be better to render out to a .mov then import that into flash.

cheers

Thanks for the reply :)

Btw, can you use Maya PLE to export these .swf-files, or is that possibility restricted to Maya Complete/Unlimited?

You cannot render using mental ray.
You cannot render using the vector renderer.
You cannot output 16-bit rendered image formats.
Camera's film fit offset and film offset are limited to 0.
Rendering is limited to a single CPU.
Images from the following tools have been limited to 1024x768:

Oh, bummer :(

Well, what about if I use Macromedia RoboDemo 5 (http://www.macromedia.com/software/robodemo/?promoid_pu3_homepage_robodemo_030304#) to capture what is going on on the screen as I play the animation within Maya PLE (wihtout having exportet, that is)? Could that be done, you think?

What Im doing is an educational software for a studentcenter in Flash.
I want to have some movies where there is a talking head (lipsynced) saying different stuff, and then the student would reply choosing between alternative replies.
I was thinking of using this book as a tutorial so that I can get a lip-synced animation going: "Stop Staring" (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/0782141293/ref=pd_sxp_elt_l1/103-5608772-3022238). Doable?

Hey Danneman,
this is kind of off subject, (sorry to budge in) but is that marcomedia program capable of taking many frames of video when a large program is up?
Say for example: a computer game?
thanks

Hi grinch,

well, I just found out about that software today, so I havent dug deep into its features yet. However, I doubt that you will be able to get a good frame-rate video-capture of a game, or in my case of the animation. It seems its primarily for making tutorials without the need for speed.

Maby (hopefully) Im wrong, though :)

Great news - it seems I was wrong :)
