When I first started playing with flash and looking for tutes, about 1.5-2 years ago, I searched Google as you would. But I never ever came across Kirupa, everything always led to FlashKit.

I thought for a long time that Flashkit was the greatest Flash site there was, and I gave up on looking for other resources.
It was only after some time when Flashkit just didn’t cut it, that I went searching and stumbled across Kirupa.

Now Flashkit has become nothing more than a faint memory, and I have never looked back.

I would have to say that out of all the forums I visit, that this has to be the most helpful and have the best moderators of all the sites.

I therefore find it a shame that Kirupa doesn’t come up in the first page of Google for any search.
(Flash) 1st-2nd Macromedia. 3rd Flashkit. Gave up on looking for Kirupa on page 4.
(flash tutorials) 1st Flashkit. Kirupa Middle-bottom of page 2.

I am disgusted that Flashkit is number one, as it pains me to think of people visiting that site looking for help when they should be here !

Now I have read ON HERE on how to increase you rank in Google, although I would have to refresh myself. I would like to see what we all can do to get Kirupa to number 1 on the Google rank where I believe it belongs.

After all, if the US politicians can play that game, I am sure we can.

Yeah but there is a lot to be said for quality not quantity.

search engines do not recognise quality, only quantity

So true.... But I am sure that will change over the next few years.

Hey bam!
While typing "flash tutorials" won't get this site on the top of the lists, actually typing specific tutorial topics such as "XML Menu in Flash", etc. will get the site listed in the Top 5 results.

For all the generic keywords, other sites have a slight lead. When it comes down to specific tutorial topics, if this site has it, it's usually listed towards towards the top on the 1st page.

As more people simply click on the kirupa.com link from your scenario, the sooner it will climb in the ranking in google's mind.

Cheers!

And if you have Kirupa set as your homepage then you actually make it a 'referral' site when you go from here to another site. The search engine can see how often the page is visited and puts it higher on the search engine...

So make KIRUPA.COM your homepage.

Just thought I'd say that I too think that kirupa should be on the first page of google for flash tutorials. I used to think flashkit was the best but it's such a pain in the arse when you're looking for a tutorial and all you get is garbage. Kirupa I hope you and the mod's keep going the way you are. Never sacrifice quality for quantity.

google toolbar makes up for that.

And i too think it is a shame that kirupa is not closer to the top of the search engines but I do not think that it will ever be able to over come flash kit. They have sounds after all, who can compete with that?

I haven't been to FlashKit in forever and a day, it seems like the content was just never being updated there, and the tuts wheren't very useful. Since I stumbled my way into Kirupa I haven't left, it's sorta like Hotel California. :)

This idea of Kirupa being number one came to me after reading a story on CNN a week or so ago.

It said that political campaigners in the US were playing games with each other trying to get there parties names to the top of the Google list, like a game of ping pong.

I thought if they could manipulate the ranks so easily, surely all of us could.

The only thing that would stop Kirupa getting number 1, is if Flashkit paid for the position.

I am a computer program bill, and my programmers have designed me that way. The mods are real people though. They simply keep their computers running 24/7, and instead of using their unused computer power to search for ET life or a cure for cancer (SETI@Home and Folding@Home), they simply receive packets of data from a K.I.R.U.P.A. server. They process all the garbled information, send it back, and KIRUPA continues to exist in the form of a forum member disguised as someone who knows Flash.

I've told too much. Must de-hijack thread before Sen...I mean, they find out.

I am sure in a few years we could be near the top in google. The way I look at it, last year, typing Flash tutorials would not have displayed this site anywhere in the Top 10 pages or so. Right now we are on Page 2.

Given enough time, I am sure google will slowly push this site up :)
