I am talking about the faded effect you can see on the background of http://www.naive.it/wordsmovie.html and the naive.it main page has the effect too. Its like a faded look. At first i though he was either changing the opacity or making a very transparent white layer above it but I dont think thats it. Does anyone know how to make this effect? I think its really great.
Thanks

Mike

It looks to me like a semi transparent gradient overlay.

you should be able to achive this easily by playing with the color palet

http://www.codeproject.com/bitmap/gradient_palette/gradient_palette.jpg

The pic above is an example of a gradient. The gradient in the pic you were talking about went from red to an orangy-brown. The red/orangy-brown gradient is semi-transparent (you can see stuff through it). This gradient is on top of the mountain image.

I am just talking about that faded kind of texture all of the objects seem to have (or at least most of the objects)

I dont think its just a simi transparent gradient layer either. See the fuzzy edges they have? Look at the main site and the buttons. That will give you a better idea of what I am talking about.

Like look at the splash page on http://www.naive.it/ . Do you see the box? See how its like a faded out/blurred look? Do you know how this is obtained. I think it looks awesome too by the way

Gaussian Blur with a Diffused Glow

Or you could selectively blur items then use the Diffuse Glow

this is what diffuse glow looks like-
http://www.grafnet.com.pl/Adobe/Distort/Diffuse%20glow.htm
you can edit it to be softer and such.

Copy and blur the layer, then set the opacity to 5 or so?

OOOOOOOOOO THAT EFFECT!

why can he just use a layer properties "glow". Select and appropriate color and blend mode, using the blend mode will give it the "un-even" haze look.. I do not think that is a blurred image under the layer. Also a slight gaussian blur to the main image (very slight) may do it also.

Blue Background

Draw a circle using circle tool.
I used white for the color.

Select insides using wand.

Pick out a pastel-ish green,

use the second or sunburst looking gradient

gaussian blur 1.5

diffuse glow: 1 - 2 - 18

that would be a good way to go. There are many ways to do it. But PR laid it out and it looks d**n good. Thanks PR.
