Here something I made using paths to create this flame effect. Paths are one of the most important things you should learn, especially clipping paths, it can save you a lot of time when trying to remove a background from an image instead of using the eraser tool.
I'm glad you discovered paths Mak, keep it up. =)

yea i was reluctant to start using it, besides my settings were messed up for the tool, instead of a selection bein made, it made a file with 3 points, so i had to find out why it did that, now its so much more fun
EG: that is so amazing......musta tooken you long!!

Mak, it took me about 15-20 min on it since I basically created 3 different flames then just duplicated those and applied some layer effects. It's easier than it looks.
Since you know how to use paths now, you should try the tutorial I used as a reference to make my flames. Let me warn you though, the tutorial assumes that you know photoshop already so it doesn't go into detail as to where to click and stuff.
Try it out, enjoy. =)

wow, I've seen the second tut before, but not the first one. The first one looks interesting, maybe I'll give it a shot when I get some free time and see what I can come up with.
The collection we have put together is very valuable, we should start charging....pay per view....hahaha :P

hey i'm just quickly reading this tut and i see a section where i might have trouble
What do I mean? Well when you run a filter you can fade the effect of that filter with the previous condition. Under the filters menu there should be an option called fade after you run a filter. You can change the opacity or set a layer mode when you fade the filter. i can't seem to find this ....help?
edit: lol, nm......shoulda checked the adobe help files b4 asking any question!! just type filter fade in search and its first result lmao.......

I ran into that problem too Mak and I can't find that feature in Photoshop 7. That tutorial is based on PS 6 I think so I'm not sure either, I ended up just doing the wave filter for that step and reduced the opacity.
You don't have to follow that tutorial exactly, it is just to give you an idea and you go from there. I ended up getting flame out of it which looks nothing like the end result of that tutorial. =)

EG: read my edit =) i have learned many times the help files provided by the companies can do wonders.....especially Macomedia's !!!
"To fade the effect of a filter, painting tool, or color adjustment:
1. Apply a filter, painting tool, or color adjustment to an image or 2. selection.
3. With the affected area still selected, choose Edit > Fade.
4. Select the Preview option to preview the effect.
5.Drag the slider to adjust the opacity, from 0% (transparent) to 100%. (See Specifying opacity, flow, strength, or exposure.)
For Mode, choose a blending mode. (See Selecting a blending mode.)
6. Click OK."

Honestly Mak, I never knew you could color the gray area and frankly I wonder why on earth would you want to do that? hahah I mean it doesn't enhance your designs or anything. Please tell me why you would want to do that or if I'm misunderstanding what you're trying to achieve here. :P

January 15th, 2003, 09:45 PM
well, i dunno, its cool for one.........
okay you know when you have a web page, instead of using the whole page some sites (like urs) use part of the page usually the middle. so when designing it in PS, you can see how it wil look in black or other colors......get it?
eyeinfinitude
January 15th, 2003, 09:49 PM
ohhh okay, well you can do this then, select the color you want and then hold down shift while you use the fill tool. That should fill the gray area with whatever color you selected. Sorry, I didn't know that was what you wanted. haha :beam:
Makaveli
January 15th, 2003, 09:51 PM
